Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

Guide and driver were both approachable and knowledgeable. A section of the Mirabell Gardens where Do Re Mi song was filmed, was closed when we visited on our own after the tour. Mondsee was nice and romantic, fun reliving childhood nostalgia scenes from movie. Listened to some songs from soundtrack and special 40th anniversary edition of DVD. Overall enjoyable and worth doing!

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

It was the highlight of our trip to Europe. The scenery and bus tour was great. I loved seeing parts of the movie and listening to the soundtrack and singing along. The guide was so so infomative and told many behind the scenes stories. Mondsee is the town where the church that Maria was wed. It was such a beautiful little town. I highly recommend this tour.
Be sure to go early to Mirabellplatz. There are many food vendors there to have a quick bite to eat before the tour.

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

I enjoyed the trip a lot, especially as we had dressed up for the occasion. However, on reflection, we didn't actually see that much. There were a alot of places that were inaccessible to the public which is just how it is. And a lot of Hollywood stuff which you can;'t see in Salzburg. But the guide didn't show us the gardens at the Mirabell palace, which were opposite the start point. With a guide maybe we could have stood on the steps, walked down the green aisle... Most of the trip was taken up with going to Montsee. We weren't shown Nonnberg or the outdoor theatre at the end of the film. But we were given an SOM guide to the city, JUST AS WELL!
So we folowed up a alot of our own stuff. Not sure why it is called the Authentic SOM tour - how many others are there and are they any better?!

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

This would have been a five-star review had the company (Panorama) not forgotten to pick us up from our hostel as promised, meaning we missed the meeting at Mirabellplatz, our choice of seats and the trip to Leopoldskron... That said, a rep was sent to collect us and bring us to the coach, and once we'd got over the initial disappointment, the tour was great fun and the guide, Peter, was extremely funny and engaging. Salzburg is beautiful and a tour of well-known sites and scenes is a brilliant way to see it. The lake district stop alone is breathtaking.

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

My friends and I had an amazing time on the Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg. Our tour guide Peter was full of facts about the movie and the real Maria Von Trapp, he was also full of some great on-liner jokes, delivered with his unique Austrian sense of humour! It rained nearly the entire 4 hours, but that did not deter anyones enthusiasm. The scenic and movie locations were amazing, especially the church in Mondsee and running through Mirabella gardens. We (being SOM geeks) dressed up in homemade curtain "play clothes" and everyone wanted photos with us. It was the highlight of our trip to Salzburg!

wonderful tour. our tour guide was great and made the trip even more enjoyable. it is true that you don't stop in mirabell gardens, the mozart bridge or the abbey however you can easily do these yourself at your own pace. no issue whatsoever. the sights are great and the apple strudel in monsee is delicious. i went with my girlfirend and i wasn't looking forward to the tour to begin with but it turned out to be a great day.

Doing what: Original Sound of Music Private Tour

Evelyn our tour guide was very good. She was sweet, friendly and made the tour fun and informative. My only complaint is that we did not see many of the sites we wanted too. We just drove past the Mirabelle Gardens and the Rock Riding school but did not go inside either. Also would have liked to see the Abbey and the cemetery. We did not even get close to either. I realize it was probably a time issue but would have been nice to have been given the choice of what we were going to see. We did enjoy seeing the lakes etc but that took up much of the time. The reason we paid more for a private tour is that we wanted to set our own sites.and see the major ones. I even requested that on my reservation ahead of time. . I do not fault out tour guide at all, I think she was just following the tour company route.
Without a car you need a tour but not sure you get much more for the money with a private tour.

Best day of the whole trip! Now alot of the movie sites with in the citycenter are very easy to walk to on your own, give yourself 3-4 hrs to see them all (Mirabell Gardens, Nonnburg Abbeyect). This tour takes to the locations that are harder to get to/find. The guides are fantastic and fun with lots of great stories told to them by the original cast members and some of the actual Von Trapp family members (all of whom have been back and taken the tour)! Be prepared to sing along to the music from the movie on the bus between locations. You also get to spend about an hour in Mondsee (where the Wedding scene church is). This is a great place to get some lunch or apple strudel, you wont really have enough time to get something to eat when you go back to change buses for the afternoon trip to the salt mines. The trains and slides going down into the Salt Mines are alot of fun! the caverns of the mines are really amazing and erie. The salt lake will play tricks on your eyes, it has to be seen to be believed. The English audio guide is not the best quality and cuts out alot but we were not that concerned and still enjoyed ourselves despite that. After the Mines you spend an hour in a village in the Bavarian mountains(great mountain views, including a view of Eagles Nest(Hitler's compound)perched n the cliffs above). Another opportunity for strudel and Bavarian beer before heading back into Salzburg.

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

Guide was great, really knew his stuff. Enjoyed the tour, would have been nice if there was some banter and singing on the tour though, we had prepared our singing voices but it was really quite tame. Disappointed that the tour did not go in to Mirabel Gardens when it stated that it would do so.

Was a little disappointed as did not actually stop at the abbey or von trapp house. Nor a guided tour of the mirabell gardens. Good guide on the bus but panorama sales rep was very unhelpful a nd rude

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

A less than average tour. The description leads you to believe you will see more than you actually see. You are told to walk over to Mirabellplatz to see items from the music versus an escorted tour. The stop in Monde was too long.

Doing what: Original Sound of Music Private Tour

We had a great tour guide on our private tour but I was expecting to actually stop and go to see many more spots close up rather than just hear about them from the van.i.e.-going into the Mirabella palace park and up to the cemetery. We had to do these on our own afterwards which I expected to do on our private tour that I had booked for this reason. Our guide was excellent and very enjoyable to have for the 4 hours. We unfortunately had lots of rain but he still made our time enjoyable.

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

We loved our trip to Salzburg, and loved our "Sound of Music" Tour. The bus driver was amazing, the guide was wonderful , and the sites that we saw were breathtaking! We were a little disappointed that we could not get closer to either "mansions" used in the film. But seeing the gazeebo was wonderful. All of the other sits we wanted to see from the movie were in Mirabel Gardens and did not require a tour guide.

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

We had an excellent and entertaining tour guide! We were somewhat disappointed that more of the Sound of Music sites weren't included as part of the tour, Mirabel fountain! As we did the afternoon tour, there was only 1.5 hours of daylight left as it was Winter. This was further cut short as we were waiting for people who were picked up from hotels, so the tour started 30 minutes late. So it would be a good idea if the tour started an hour or so earlier during the winter season!

Doing what: The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

What a disappointment this tour is! While it promised a lot, we saw little. It promised to visit the Mirabell, Leopoldskron and Hellbrun Palaces, Nonnberg Abbey, and St Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang. The closest we came to the gardens of Mirabell was the guide pointing at the palace as we drove out of the bus terminal opposite. No dancing through the gardens like the Von Trapps. We saw the Leopoldskron Palace from across the lake even though it is open to tourists. We stood outside the glass gazebo because it was locked. We didn't stop at Nonnberg and I still don't know what it looks like. The guide would say "Look left now for the Abbey" and I always seemed to be on the wrong side of the bus! The visit to St Gilgen was a stop on the highway above the village. The only inside visit was to the Mondsee church where Maria and the Captain were married.
