Is there a science to skateboarding, do robots have feelings, and do toilets really flush counterclockwise in Australia? Head to the Exploratorium to get fascinating scientific answers to all those questions you always wanted to ask in science class. It’s an educational fun house for kids and adults of all ages.
Wander through hundreds of exhibits, uncovering the mad magic of Einstein’s theory of relativity or giant bubble blowing. Safe, interactive exhibits abound, from touching tornadoes to trying out a punk hairdo courtesy of the static-electricity station. You can even feel your way - in darkness - through the maze of the highly recommended Tactile Dome. The adjoining park with a tranquil lagoon is home to ducks, swans, seagulls, and geese. With views of San Francisco Bay, the park is a perfect spot for an afternoon picnic.

Short Version: Worth every penny, saves you plenty of money, especially if you are there a while.
The details: The one problem I will share was completely my fault which is this: Don't give yourself only three days for San Francisco! We didn't get to everything we wanted to including the MOMA which we had free admission to thanks to this awesome city pass. This pass gives you free transportation for a week! That alone could pay for itself if you are there for the full seven days. But on top of that, we were able to go to the Exploratorium (incredible hands on science museum), the California Academy of Sciences (another incredible science museum with a man made rainforest you can walk through and a planetarium all in one building), and a few other great attractions. Each attraction is around $25 or more so if you get to all of them you are once again getting your money's worth. I highly recommend this pass to anybody who is visiting San Fran for the first time and is planning on visiting some of these awesome attractions (if you are not, you can just get a metro pass for three days to get around the city).

This is one of my favorite places in SF to take kids. Any age is ok though probably ages 4 and up will get the most out of the exhibits. The Exploratorium is packed on weekends so try to go early and don't rush!

Spent 5 hours at the Academy of Sciences, loved the Aquarium and Exploratorium, enjoyed the nearly obligatory cruise of the Bay, and made sure to take advantage of $20 off the incredible Go Car tour experience. Seriously hundreds of dollars of value for the $69 we spent per. Absolutely essential starting point for a SF trip!
