Fisherman's Wharf Reviews
We've found 27 Fisherman's Wharf reviews from Viator.com travelers and members: what they loved, what they liked and what they think could be improved. It's all here to help you make the most of your next trip.
The explanations in the bus are, in general, superficial. The stops are good, but some of them, only related to consumption (Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39). Maybe I'm a bit spoiled by the "Explore Chicago Pass" (Here a suggestion aimed to the staff - compare services). But, in general, it worth going.
We couldn't do the advanced tour (it should be better indicated on the site that they won't let you do this tour unless you have already done the other Segway tour with them).
Fortunately we could do the "basic" tour the same day and at the same time. The team is great and very friendly and I would definitely recommend this place for Segway tours.
The tour itself is pretty simple as you don't see that many things, but the ride on the Segway is really fun and you still get to see some of San Fransico streets and the famous Fisherman's Wharf.
Definitely a must-do if you have a couple of hours to spare while in SF.
What a great way to get around the city. I went on the tour the first day to get an idea of what there was to see. Stopped off at the Golden Gate Bridge for my first stop and then spent the next day going to Haight Ashbury and Fisherman's Wharf. I would definitely do this again.
Found the hop-on hop-off to be very reliable and informative. The buses came regularly and within the timeframe given and visit all the main attractions in San Francisco. The voucher needs to be validated at the main office, just back from Fishermans Wharf, before first use but that was easy to find. The office is very close to a stop, so you can use it straight away. The buses are open top, remember to take a hat and sunscreen..as some people were getting quite sunburnt..however we were prepared for this and did not find it a problem. Having visited here before, this was my first time using this and I highly recommend viewing the attractions by this method. It was a very exhilerating way to visit this wonderful city!!
Great service, remember to validate your viator voucher at the super sightseeing HQ on Taylor and North Point @ Fishermans Wharf before boarding a bus. The blue service is not as regular as the red buses, but we didn't find this a problem. We did feel the bus should make a stop at Alamo Square and the Painted Ladies as it is on the route and is a popular destination for tourists. I have to make a special mention to one of our tour guides and driver Willie. He was full of information, good humour and songs and even took us on a 'rollercoaster trip' through the Haight. He really made an impression on our holiday!! All in all this is an excellent way to get a feel for the city.
We were left a bit disappointed with this tour as they didn't appear to have enough buses on the first day we used them. We went directly from the first stop to Golden Gate Bridge and after walking the bridge we got back to the pick up area but there appeared to be no sign to form an orderly queue. We waited about 40 minutes for a bus and then there was just a surge to get on first ... There were about 25 people left waiting for the next bus!!. Didn't want to risk getting stranded elsewhere so just stayed on until we were back in Fisherman's Wharf and didn't use the second day's voucher, The Red Hop On buses seemed to have more frequent pick-ups.
Had one GREAT tour guide, a couple of good tour guides and one terrible guide. I wondered at times if she actually knew anything about San Francisco or if she had moved there yesterday!
There are a couple of different companies that offer the same service and it appeared to us that the red buses had more regular pick ups than the blue ones.
At one stage we waited for an hour for a bus as the 2 that turned up while we were there were full and could not fit us on. We ended up walking back to our hotel (over an hour but less frustrating than waiting any longer).
It was also unclear exactly where the stops would be, just had the interection marked on the brochure but there were no signs to clarify exactly where the bus would stop.
We picked up the tour at the Fishermans Wharf stop where 2 of the staff were standing at the stop selling tickets. In the 15 minutes we stood waiting for the bus to arrive, they were discussing loudly and openly how hopeless one the tour guides was and how the boss is trying to get rid of him but doesn't know what to do. It was very unprofessional and not thr greatest of introductions to the company.
Would do another hop on hop off tour however would choose another company next time.
The route this bus follows gives you a good overview of the city and convenient stops to see the highlights. We found a big variety of commentators; a couple not so great, and one (Christina) that was FANTASTIC. We got off the bus at Golden Gate Bridge, Union Square, Chinatown and Fisherman's Wharf. Getting the two day pass for the price of one day was extra good value!
It was very cold when we took this trip. The highlight was the visit to the Golden Gate Bridge. Very cold and windy though. The commentary was not very good. We did take this tour from macy's to Fishermans wharf the next day, and the commentary was much better, and we had a coach not an open top bus which was much warmer!
Great value for the price of a 2 day ticket, we found this was the ideal way to get an overall view of the area and we completed the full circle first and then selected specific areas that we wanted to explore in depth.
Obviously the Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Park, highly recommend The Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio, Pier 39 of course, Lombard Street and the Cable Car ride from Union Square to Fishermans Wharf just blew me away.
Choices of shopping and eating places was great along Fishermans Wharf.
The trip over to Alcatraz was very good and informative - NEVER go to San Francisco without booking this in advance or you wont get to go to the rock. Do not let the rain and fog stop you either.
Bus took over an hour and a half to pick us up from a stop (fisherman's wharf.) There were 6 people waiting at this stop for a bus, 2 from my party. When we called them after waiting for 45 minutes they said they were sorry and were running late and it would be another 20 minutes. It ended up being 45 additional minutes so a total of an hour and a half waiting for the bus. At this point I was fed up and thus called to get a refund, the local person said to call Viator and they would approve the refund.
In addition the bus had leaks all in the roof where rain was dripping onto my head and 4 other seats on the bus during the ride. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a hop on hop off bus tour. I also think they only had one bus running for the entire city as after we stopped riding due to the above event we sat down for lunch in a spot we could watch to confirm how often the buses passed and we ate for an hour and 20 minutes where the bus never came by during the entire time. This also confirmed the fact the 30 min wait time was completely bogus and fraudulent.
Used this service over 3 days as a cheaper way of getting around SF as we had no car. Took a full curcuit of 2 hours to get our bearings and driver/commentator Aaron was fantastic. Other commentators only so so. Make sure you get your ticket validated at the Office at Fisherman's Wharf before boarding the first time. Allow 10 mins at a pick up stop as the buses can get ahead of schedule. Good value.
Used this service over 3 days in total and found it reliable and a good way to get around. Make sure you validate your VIATOR coupon at the office in Fisherman's Wharf before boarding the bus for the first time.
