Things to Do with Kids in Shanghai
By Viator, August 2013
Oriental Pearl Tower: The Oriental Pearl Tower was once the tallest building in Shanghai, and it’s still the best bet for panoramic views of the city. If your kids are on the adventurous side, they’ll get a thrill by walking along the 360-degree glass paneled observatory.
High Speed Train: When you land at the airport, skip the taxi and take the high-speed Maglev train instead. With speeds up to 267 miles per hour (430 kilometers per hour), it’s the fastest passenger train in the world.
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium: The Shanghai Ocean Aquarium’s collection of sharks, fish and other aquatic critters make the perfect rainy day diversion for families with kids. Make sure to walk through the world’s longest underwater tunnel.
Shanghai Circus World: The Shanghai Circus World: ERA Intersection of Time Acrobatics Show blends history, visual effects, colorful costumes and some amazing feats of flexibility, balance and strength into one family friendly show.
Science and Technology Museum: With three floors of interactive exhibits spaced between 13 themed areas and four theaters, the Science and Technology Museum can easily keep the kids entertained for a full day.
Century Park: Located in the middle of Pudong, Century Park has ample green space for a picnic as well as a mini-golf course, bike trails, a lake with paddle boats and an area where the kids can feed the pigeons.
Huangpu River Cruise: When your feet get tired, step aboard a Huangpu River Cruise to watch the Bund light up at sunset.
Shanghai Animal Parks: Shanghai has not one, but three kid-friendly animal parks, including the Shanghai Zoo, Wild Insect Kingdom and Shanghai Wild Animal Park.
Day Trip to Water Village: With or without kids, every visitor to Shanghai should set aside a day for a trip to one of the area’s ancient water villages. Children will love riding boats through the canals and walking over the traditional stone footbridges.
Double Decker Bus: Shanghai’s Hop on Hop off bus takes you past most of the city’s famous attractions and landmarks, allowing you to pick and choose what you and the kids want to see with minimal transportation hassle.
