Bukit Timah Nature Reserve

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve occupies a 400-acre (1.6 square kilometer) swath of land on the slopes of Bukit Timah Hill, the tallest hill in Singapore. While relatively small, the reserve -- one of the oldest established forest reserves in the country -- is surprisingly rich in biodiversity with more than 500 species of birds and animals and some 840 species of plants. The park is quite popular with hikers, joggers and bird watchers.

The entire road to the peak of Bukit Timah Hill is paved, making it a relatively easy trek through the lush forest. You’ll find placards in English along the entire length of the path offering more information on the wildlife that live there. You’ll also find a few trails dedicated to mountain bikers. Entrance to the park is free, making it a good option for a short day trip from the city. Mosquitoes can be a problem, so bring along your bug spray.
