Comment from John Reality
Though a relatively recent development, it is now possible to camp at any number of parks and beaches in Singapore. This phenomenon is a considerably cheaper option than even the most affordable budget hotels (though you may want to invest in affordable gear before traveling), and it can also be much more pleasant.
Note: although cooking pits and barbecues abound, it is necessary to pay a fee to use them legally.
