Since its opening in 1973, the Singapore Zoo has become one of they city’s top attractions and consistently ranked as one of the best wildlife parks in the world. More than 2,800 animals of some 300 different species call the 64-acre (26-hectare) park home, many of them living in free-roaming enclosures meant to mimic their natural habitats.

Since the park is so big, it’s a good idea to take advantage of the zoo tram, an open-air vehicle with an audio guide that will introduce you to the park’s zones and exhibits. After getting a survey of what’s available, you can better decide which animals you’d like to visit again for a closer look, or just hop on and off as you go.

One of the Singapore Zoo’s best offerings, the Night Safari, takes guests on a journey through seven geographical zones to see the zoo’s nocturnal residents up and active in their naturalistic habitats. After your tram ride, explore a few of the walking trails for an up-close look at wallabies, leopards and fishing cats.

The wildlife park’s newest offering, the River Safari, sits between the zoo and the Night Safari and houses an addition 5,000 animals representing 300 species from the world’s river habitats. It’s here you’ll find the world’s largest panda exhibit -- home of Kai Kai and Jia Jia -- and the world’s largest freshwater aquarium.
