Sorrento Travel Tips
Sorrento, located in Campania in southern Italy and overlooking the Bay of Naples, is a popular tourist destination. It's also loaded with history. It can be reached easily from Naples and Pompeii and offers views of the famed Mount Vesuvius and the lovely Isle of Capri.
Take the famous winding drive along the beautiful Amalfi Coast, situated on dramatic high cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Sorrento's location makes it easy to visit the charming coastal towns and beaches that dot the coast a short distance away, such as lovely hillside Positano, Spaggia Grande and Fornillo.
Sorrento is also well-positioned as a home base for exploring some of Italy's most iconic historic sites, such as the "lost city" of Pompeii. Close to Naples, it's a scenic 30-minute train ride from Sorrento, with views of lemon groves from which Sorrento's famous Limoncello digestif is produced. One more way for the curious traveler to get a good taste of southern Italy and the Amalfi Coast region.
