Fair trade products have been a staple on supermarket shelves and in coffee shops for over a decade now. They’re an acknowledgement that simply sourcing goods for the lowest price has a hidden cost for producers and the environment – often in the poorest nations. Fair trade organizations ensure that local growers aren’t exploited by ruthless multinationals.
The rise of ecotourism recognizes that our travels also have a significant impact on the environment, but how do you know that your tourist dollar is helping rather than hurting the inhabitants of the places you visit? Is there such a thing as “fair travel”?
There is in South Africa, in fact they’re a world leader in the field.Editor's Note: This recommendation was taken from our South Africa Things To Do blog. Visit the original post to continue reading the full post and to learn more about things to do in South Africa.
