Rawlins Plantation & Caribelle Batik

Two universal desires that drive travelers to the shores of St. Kitts are R&R and Caribbean culture. Pleasure seekers in search of recuperation and island craft work should take care not to miss the tranquil ambiance of Rawlins Plantation and the striking beauty of locally produced Caribelle Batik.

Situated on the grounds of a 17th century sugar cane plantation on Mount Pleasant, Rawlins Plantation has been offering luxurious cottages, cocktails, international and Caribbean food and one of the best wine lists on the island to visitors for more than three decades. Home to 12 guestrooms scattered about the plantation grounds and surrounded by acres of tropical gardens and breathtaking views, Rawlins Inn is the perfect place for travelers to absorb the relaxing island atmosphere. Shoppers interested in Caribelle’s distinctive variation on the tradition of crafting Indonesian batiks can get their fill at the large production facility and retail shop at Romney Manor.

Caribelle produced its first colorful, patterned garments in the ancient manner of resisting dye with wax in the early 1970s. Since that time, they’ve developed their distinctive technique and made it available to all comers.

Practical Info

While both destinations are open to all age groups, the speed of life and nature of available activities are definitely geared toward adults. The grass tennis court and impromptu games of croquet on the lawn at Rawlins or detailed artist demonstrations at Caribelle are like to be lost on the average young person.
