Russia is a pretty hard place to navigate and I found I only really understood things when I was with a guide on one of the tours! Often, signs are written only in English, so even getting around can be a trial. At one level the country is very interesting visually, but once you understand the history of a place it's ten times more appealing. Take the tours!
