The Russian Museum is the first state museum of Russian fine arts in the country.
The Russian Museum today is a unique depository of artistic treasures, a famous restoration centre, an authoritative institute of academic research, one of the major cultural and educational centers in Russia, and a research and instructional centre of art museums of the Russian Federation, overseeing activities of 260 art museums in Russia.
Currently there are several exhibition that will last till mid February. The first one ‘From Moscow to the country’s outskirts’ . The exhibition is devoted to the Russian art of the 18th - beginning of the 21 centuries where the significant and versatile theme of outskirt received the various interpretation. The exposition includes about 100 paintings, graphic works, sculptures and applied art works from the collection of the Russian Museum.
Another one is devoted to famous Russian painters ‘Collections of Mikhail and Sergei Botkin’. The exhibition consists of two independent parts that sufficiently fully present the gatherings of Mikhail Botkin (1839-1914) and Sergey Botkin (1859-1910) who were the greatest collectors of art works in Russia in the second half of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century.
