Forget about Swedish fish, those yummy gummy sweets that you can find in America and beyond. Sweden is known for far more culinary delights. On your next trip to this Scandinavian country be sure to take some time, step out of your comfort zone and sample some of the local foods. While more simple than meals to the south, thanks to the long and cold winters, these dishes still are flavorful.

Throughout the country, pickled herring reigns supreme. From dill to curry and plenty of flavors in between, this freshly-plucked-from-the-water fish is one of the most popular items served on breakfast, lunch and dinner tables in the country.
