At well over 11,000 feet, the train station known as the
Jungfraujoch is the highest station of its kind in Europe. Built to increase accessibility and tourism to Jungfrau (the third-highest peak in the Bernese Alps), the station is unlike any other. Within, a large complex of tunnels connects a hotel, two restaurants, an observatory, a research station, a small cinema, a ski school and a collection of elaborate ice sculptures. There is also a flat, snow-covered outdoor area where visitors can take the mountain air and gaze at the surrounding peaks, valleys and other beautiful scenery.
