How to get from the sydney airport to the main city centre
Comment from koalakiss86
The train station in Sydney airport is right out the front of the airport, for around $13 Australian catch a train into the city centre which should take about 30mins to get to. From there all the major shopping malls are walking distance.
You can catch the Sydney Airport Train which departs the International (entry is at the end of the terminal, turn right as you exit customs) and Domestic Terminal Stations (entry near baggage 1/2) - between 5 am through to midnight 7 days.
Service run every 5 to 10 minutes and connect you right into the City of Sydney, via the main City Circle Line (Central, St James, Museum, Circular Quay, Wynyard and Town Hall Stations).
The cost is $15AUD.
No queues, no waiting around, and best of all - it's a DIRECT link to any other transport modes (like ferries at Circular Quay) or country trains from Central, or Sydney Buses.
You can buy a ticket at the Airport Train Station which includes all types of travel for a week, or a day - whatever you would like, and whatever suits your needs.
The best deal around.

Yes, the train is an excellent option for getting from Sydney airport to the main city centre but I can go one better. There is actually a city bus that will pick you up from the terminal and take you into Sydney. It doesn't cost any more than any other trip in a bus in Sydney so it's much cheaper than the train. It is a bit harder to find and you'll want to do some research to see when they come but if you want to save some money and don't mind a bit of hassle it's another great option.
