Manly Beach Trips from Sydney
By Viator, August 2013
Get to Manly from Sydney by ferry. Leaving from Circular Quay the ferry takes half an hour to traverse the gorgeous Sydney Harbour and arrives at Manly Wharf on the Manly Cove side of the peninsula. A five minute walk takes you out the other side to the waves of Manly Beach. The bus from Sydney to Manly also arrives at the wharf after taking you across the Harbour Bridge. If you have your own transport then you can of course drive, just be aware that parking can be difficult to find when it’s hot and sunny.
Once you’re at Manly, kick back and enjoy the beaches! Manly Beach is the best known and is the best for surfing, the quintessential Aussie beach experience, and generally soaking up the rays. Manly Cove is a little quieter and the waves aren’t as big, making this a perfect beach for families or grabbing a snorkel and taking a look at what’s beneath the surface.
After a morning on the beach it’s time to get out of the sun and do some shopping. Stop for lunch at one of the many cafes or pick up an ice cream to treat yourself as you stroll the Corso. From high-end fashion to the highest concentration of surf shops in Australia, Manly prides itself on being a complete shopping destination. If you’ve got kids (or are one at heart), the Manly Sea Life Sanctuary is the place to be. Part aquarium, part sea life conservation centre, the sanctuary is home to many species native to the area.
If you’re in Manly on a weekend you’re in luck! Markets line the Esplanade each weekend and should definitely be checked out. For more watersports, why not try your hand at kayaking or learning to surf. The Manly Surf School is the biggest player. Bike tours of the area are a fun way to keep active on land, but if you have an extra day… Manly is the end (or beginning, if you’d prefer to work it that way), of the Spit Bridge to Manly walkway – a highly scenic half day walk through lush coastal bush, past sprawling green parks and has the best views of Sydney Harbour, hands down.
