Lungshan Temple

Lungshan is Taipei’s oldest and most popular temple, dating back to the early 18th century, when it was first established by settlers from mainland China. In the meantime it’s expanded and contracted in times of war and peace, very much integrated into the life of the city while offering an oasis of reflection and contemplation within its heart.

Visitors are rarely unmoved by the amazingly ornate carvings and other decorative elements on display. The ceremonial gateways, elegant pagoda roofs and heady incense burners associated with traditional Chinese temples are all here. Also typically Chinese is the mix of faiths; Lungshan is associated with Buddhism, Taoism and local gods.

I didn't feel rushed at all especialy while walking through the night market. I was even able to try the delicacies.
He was also very informative in Taipei 101.

Practical Info

Lungshan Temple is in central Taipei and is served by its own MRT station. It is open until 10pm so consider an evening visit when the temple is at its most atmospheric, perhaps before or after dinner at the nearby Huashi Street Night Market.
