This massive man-made island was initially built for defense but over the years has been transformed into a blossoming residential and commercial district. Due to recent development the area is one of the most modern parts of the city with elevated walkways and plenty of green space. The area is notorious for it's unique and sometimes crazy architectural creations such as the Fuji TC Building, Telecom Center and Tokyo Big Sight.
The beach itself is not very impressive, just a small strip of sand with a view of Rainbow Bridge. It is nonetheless quite popular with both tourists and locals. There are many major shopping malls in the area as well as high tech attractions like the Museum of Emerging Sciences and Toyota Mega Web, where visitors can test drive the company's newest creations.
