The Piazza San Carlo is a symmetrically designed plaza built in 1638. Visitors interested in historic churches will want to visit the church of Santa Cristina; like the palaces of Piazza Castello, Santa Christina's facade was designed by Filippo Juvarra. The square is also home to the church of San Carlo, and in the center of the square stands the equestrian statue of Duke Emmanuel Philibert.
Nearby, you'll find the Galleria d'Arte Moderna. Like the Museum of Contemporary art, the Galleria d'arte Moderna contains one of the premier collections of modern art in Italy. Museum-goers will view works by artists such as Modigliani, De Chirico, Carrà, De Pisis and Guttuso, as well as paintings from Renoir, Paul Klee, Chagall and more.
The piazza is found along the Via Roma, which is the main traffic artery in Turin. This street is lined with modern, uniform stone facades and arcades, providing tourists a charming view of a bustling Italian city.
