Fiesole

I’ve always been curious about Fiesole because it was hometown of one of my favourite artists, Fra Angelico, a Dominican monk who painted gorgeous religious icons during the 15th century. It’s only 5.5 miles (9km) from Florence, up in the lovely green hills and olive groves, and was once a great city power in its own right. Inevitably powerful Florence rose up and sacked the city and Fiesole became a pleasant holiday town for wealthy Florentine dynasties.
