Christmas in Vancouver

There are many ways to celebrate the Christmas holiday in Vancouver. Every year the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver hosts their Festival of Trees, with myriad Christmas trees decorated in support of BC Children’s Hospital. Nearby, the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Vancouver is filled with over-the-top gingerbread houses for their annual Gingerbread Lane event, with proceeds going to Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon.

To celebrate in the outdoors, head to Grouse Mountain for their yearly Peak of Christmas outdoor festival, which runs from the end of November until Christmas Eve. It features an ice skating rink, Santa’s Workshop complete with real reindeer, sleigh rides, caroling and other cheerful accents. At Stanley Park: Bright Nights -- running from the beginning of November until the beginning of January -- the entire park is illuminated with 2 million twinkling lights, which visitors can explore aboard a Miniature Train. Cocoa, roasted chestnuts, popcorn and the singing of Christmas songs enhance the experience. Partial proceeds from this event benefit the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Burn Fund. And at the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge from the beginning of December to the beginning of January, Canyon Lights brings thousands of colorful lights, glassblowing demonstrations, gingerbread making, caroling, live music, scavenger hunts to Vancouver for the holidays.

During Christmas in Vancouver there are a number of holiday performances taking place throughout the city. At the Centennial Theatre Centre you can see two classic Christmas stories brought to life on stage: A Christmas Carol and The Nutcracker. Other theaters known for their holiday performance fare include the Presentation House Theatre, the Deep Cove Shaw Theatre and the Kay Meek Center.

And for those who dream of visiting Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole, simply head to the Lynn Valley Center in North Vancouver to immerse yourself in a world of toys, gingerbread houses, holiday train rides, elves, classic storytelling, light shows, interactions with Santa Claus and holiday magic.
