Must-Do Experience, Tip - General Travel, Monument - Historical
Washington DC has its fair share of things to do, but for the history buff and monument fanatic, DC is a playground of elephantine proportions. From the White House and Capitol Hill, to the Smithsonian and everything in-between, DC has got more sightseeing than anybody but the longest staying traveler can expect to see while there.
That being the case, a tour is recommended to help orient yourself and to help point-out more esoteric highlights like the new renovation on the Ford Theatre, background notes about the Civil War, and what 1860’s Washington looked like. Get a good overview of Washington DC with a day tour and visit the “must sees” like the White House, the Capitol Building, the Smithsonian Museums, and the National Monument.
A nice alternative tour, and one for any closet shutterbug, is the Monuments and Memorials Full Day Photo Safari where you’ll get to visit, quite literally, the most picturesque monuments that Washington has to offer. Under the guidance of professional photographer E. David Luria, you and a small group will visit and photograph no less than 10 historic sites including the Lincoln and Vietnam Memorials, Lafeyette Park, the White House and Capitol Building, while getting professional guidance and photographic tips before ending the day with Iwo Jima Marine Corps Memorial and its postcard views of DC.
Three 50 something year old sisters and Segways, sounds comical, and it was. Our tour guide Lisa handled our shenanigans with humor, knowledge and lots of patience. Lisa's instructions were easy to follow and she soon had us up and running. What an awesome way to see our Nation's Capital. We stopped frequently so Lisa could share her obvious love of Washington with us. I highly recommend taking the time and trying a Segway tour, it's an experience you won't soon forget.
