A hugely popular winter destination thanks to its vibrant Christmas markets and dazzling New Year’s celebrations, Zurich‘s unbeatable transport connections make it a great base for checking out Switzerland’s legendary ski resorts, many of which are reachable by train. Here’s a run down of the best options.

1. Flumserberg
One of the closest resorts to Zurich at less than an hour by train, Flumserberg is a popular – and therefore busy – choice for city dwellers wanting to spend a day on the slopes. 17 ski lifts run up to heights of 2,200 meters (7,217 feet) and there’s over 20km of cross-country trails to challenge more experienced skiers.
