2010 Press Releases
Viator, Inc. Names Dan Hart Head of European and Asian Operations
December 8, 2010
Hart will lead Viator's consumer-direct business throughout Europe and Asia, both of which are strategic areas of focus for the Company. He will continue to develop and grow Viator's seven European-language sites – French, German, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian and Swedish. In addition to maintaining responsibility for successfully marketing Viator directly to the European and Asian traveler, Hart will also support the Company’s existing third-party distribution activities across these regions. Viator's global affiliate network of more than 1,000 partners currently includes major European and Asian-based travel companies such as AirAsia, British Airways, Air France, easyJet, lastminute.com and Zuji, and the company sees strong potential for further expansion in these regions. Hart will also be responsible for managing Viator's growing London-based organization which includes marketing, supplier management and customer support teams.
"Europe has been a strategic area of focus for Viator, especially over the past two years as we’ve succeeded in reaching more travelers directly through our local language sites, a strategy we plan to pursue in major markets in Asia as well," said Ms. Barrie Seidenberg, Viator CEO and president. "With a background that combines leadership roles with both blue-chip organizations and start-ups alike, Dan’s strong consumer and B2B expertise will be a solid contributor to the strategic growth we have planned for our operations in these key regions."
"Viator successfully identified a niche in the global travel market more than a decade ago and they have built themselves into the true leader in the destination activities space," said Mr. Hart. "Having watched their steady growth and increasing prominence during my career in travel, I am delighted to be part of the Viator team and I’m looking forward to playing a key part of the brand’s expansion into the European and Asian markets."
Before joining the Viator team, Hart gained over sixteen years of experience working within the travel and e-commerce sectors, twelve years of which were within the Virgin Group. Most recently, he worked with nowfly.co.uk, an unbiased flight meta-search engine which he founded in January 2008. Prior to this, he served as Head of Commercial from 2004 to 2007 and Head of Sales from 2001 to 2004 with TheTrainline.com Ltd, the leading UK independent online retailer of train tickets. Hart previously worked with Newlines Airways, a start-up airline; lastminute.com; and spent six years with Virgin Atlantic Airways where he held the roles of National Account Manager and Area Sales Manager within their corporate sales team.
