Efficient Pay-for-Performance Model Increasing Traffic and Sales for Viator and Commission Junction Partners
San Francisco, CA ? September 18, 2006 ? Viator, the leading online resource for destination activities worldwide, today announced it has partnered with Commission Junction to cost-effectively extend its portfolio of tours and activities to more online consumers.
Commission Junction, an industry leader in pay-for-performance marketing, provides Viator efficient access to an active and productive global network of online publishers in a variety of online retail categories. Some of the Commission Junction publishers that participate with Viator include iFly.com, a web portal combining air travel planning, trip purchasing and flight monitoring; MrRebates.com, providing cash-back rebates, coupons and sales at over 800 popular stores; and Upromise.com, a free service designed to help families save for college.
"iFly visitors count on us to help them with their overall airport experience including how to get there, flight tracking, departure and arrival times, and even security wait times," said Anthony Hanseder, president of iFly.com. "We felt a partnership with Viator would give our visitors even more utility from their iFly experience, by offering the ability to book items like airport shuttles online."
In initial testing, Commission Junction has proven to be a reliable and cost-effective source for increased exposure and new customers to Viator's consumer-direct site, www.viator.com. Bookings through Viator's direct website have grown considerably year over year, and Commission Junction is helping to fuel further growth.
"As we increase investment in our consumer direct site, Viator.com, Commission Junction is proving to be another effective way to reach new consumers to promote the value of booking destination activities in advance," said Barrie Seidenberg, president of Viator, Inc. "This relationship gives Commission Junction publishers access to a new type of travel content and provides Viator with the ability to raise awareness of the advance-purchase destination activity category."
As part of the new marketing initiative, Commission Junction publishers apply or are recruited into the Viator program through the CJ Marketplace. After publishers' proposed marketing models are reviewed by Viator, authorized publishers are encouraged to post Viator-produced marketing (banners, text-links, product catalogs, and content links) onto their sites, available through a single Web-based interface. These publisher affiliates drive traffic to Viator via site exposure, search engine marketing, organic search and other marketing outlets.
If a publisher site's visitor clicks through to Viator's website and ultimately completes a purchase, the participating Commission Junction publisher earns a commission.
A recent banner-ad campaign created by Viator for its Commission Junction program highlighted the frequent flyer miles that can be earned when consumers buy their tours and activities from Viator in advance. Consumer response to this campaign has been extremely positive, helping drive revenue for participating Commission Junction sites.
"Mr. Rebates was happy to add Viator as a new merchant partner to our growing roster of more than 800 stores," said Craig Cassata, Mr. Rebates' founder. "Viator really struck a chord with us, bringing added value to travelers looking for deals on Mr. Rebates. Our customers are now able to plan their vacation activities and get a cash-back rebate by booking with Viator, which already provides customers with the ability to save valuable money and time by pre-booking their sightseeing tours, attraction passes and show tickets."
Viator is the world's leading online resource for travel experiences ? the things you do when you get there, providing access to more than 4,500 sightseeing tours, attractions and activities in 450-plus destinations in more than 75 countries. Viator -- the Latin word for traveler -- offers online consumers a one-stop shop to plan, research and book trip activities that meet a variety of tastes and preferences, including sightseeing tours, theater tickets, soft adventure trips, attraction passes, wine and culinary excursions, and many "well kept secrets" off the beaten path. Viator's in-house travel experts help take the guess work out of planning by hand-picking respected and trusted local operators to ensure a quality experience, value and service. Viator, founded in 1995, sells its products directly to consumers at www.viator.com and through its growing global network of more than 3,500 affiliates that include major hotel and airline companies, online travel agencies, city-specific sites and more. Viator is headquartered in San Francisco with regional offices in Sydney, London and Las Vegas.
