Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge things to do

The legendary Moulin Rouge, located in Paris' 18th arrondissement near Montmartre, has been regaling show goers with its unique brand of cabaret for just shy of 130 years. Named for the now-famed faux red windmill on its roof, Moulin Rouge has come to be more than just a venue serving up rousing adult music-and-dance entertainment: It symbolizes French (and Bohemian) culture.

Viator offers many tours that take you to Moulin Rouge, along with many more things to do in Paris.

Moulin Rouge: Past & Present

For many performers, a gig at the Moulin Rouge is like no other. And, not surprisingly, the cabaret has had its share of recognizable faces hoofing and belting onstage. A few such notables included Josephine Baker, Edith Piaf and Frank Sinatra.

But La Goulue (née Louise Weber) is most famously associated with the Moulin Rouge. It was on its stage in the 1890s that she performed an early form of the Cancan. Subsequently, she became a permanent Moulin Rouge headliner, the toast of Paris and its most beloved Cancan girl.
