Congratulations to our Travel Photo Contest winners!
The theme was 'Signs - Travel Signs seen on the Road'. The submissions were fantastic. Selecting a winner was not easy. In fact we received so many excellent photos that we've decided to publish some of the runners-up in the Notable Entries section.

This was our first trip to New York. We were visiting Niagara Falls on the USA side. My husband took the picture of me and our four girls (our son was on his back). We were on our way to Canada for some work related training. We love taking these side stops to enjoy nature and see the world!
January/February 2007 Travel Photo Contest - Theme 'Food'

1st - Rosy H, Australia
This photo was taken in Palermo, Sicily whilst we were visiting in October. We asked the waiter for a surprise dish - he didn't disappoint with 2 very rubbery large octopuses which were tasty but difficult to eat.

2nd - Chris R, New Zealand
Roasting coffee beans in a coffee plantation in Bali. A picture of me and the old man that does it full time for a living, still done the old way, over a fire and the temp was about 30 degrees celsius. Then we got to have a cup of it, nice but very strong.

3rd - Preema P, USA
Enjoying "see-food" at a beach shack in Goa, India.
Notable Entries - Theme 'Food'
Michael M, USA
Thai floating food market, Chao Phraya River Bangkok. Buying lunch from a boat on the river in Bangkok is no big deal, eating it is.
Mark P, Australia
This is me in Vienna about to eat the biggest schnitzel I have ever seen!
Jessica T, USA
Isla Mujeres, Mexico - eating fish with eyeballs and everything.
Erin G, USA
This picture was taken in Venice, Italy. I have never seen such a large and colorful vegetable stand before! It was beautiful!
Jordan D, Thailand
Here's my nephew Toby in Eastern Thailand. And while they do eat these bugs over there, we had neglected to tell him that they shell them first...
Bruce M, Australia
Taken on the island of Lamu, off the coast of Kenya. Lamu is a small place, and this mural was painted on a wall in the old part of town. Note the line, "May I have a packet of milk." When you're on the road, milk does sometimes come in packets.
Chetan S, India
Many tourists come to the Mandu and feel the beauty of nature and taste of maize (Bhutta).
Vicki P, Australia
The night markets, Wangfuching St in Beijing. I wasn't brave enough to try one of these but they were very popular with the older locals.
Jamie Y, Canada
Taken in Cancun at Bubba Gump's restaurant. Seafood galore.
Luke C, Australia
Pumpkin Pie, Thanksgiving lunch, Soho, New York, 2005.
Swat, Netherlands
Chinese potato frites at the market in Lijiang.
Tammy, Australia
This photo was taken in Yangshou, China. When we ordered the chicken dish we never imagined it would contain the whole chicken. This photo shows the chicken head.
November/December 2006 Travel Photo Contest - Theme 'Water'

1st - Kailash M, India
This picture was taken in India. This shows how the people of India collect water in deep ponds.

2nd - Leanne O, Australia
Some of the lakes in New Zealand are called "Mirror Lakes"....for obvious reasons!

This photo was taken at Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Notable Entries - Theme 'Water'
Andrew P, USA
Yanuca island, Fiji
Elfred Z, USA
Rabida Island, Galapagos. Water was chilly, so I end up joining these guys on the beach to warm up!
Esad D, Serbia
This was taken at a Swiss village near the Swiss Alps, with beautiful snow on the lake.
Dermot L, Ireland
This is a reflection of Dubai's Burj al Arab in the shallow water of a nearby beach. I took it when sitting on the beach at the end of a long day when I was there researching my undergraduate thesis. There's so much impressive architecture there, both old and modern, but this still stands out as the most amazing.
Melissa H, USA
This is a picture of my son looking out on the Reflection Pond in Washington, DC.
Joanne S, New Zealand
I travelled out with Glacier Explorers to take this photo, up the Tasman Valley - not far from Mt Cook village. We got up close to the terminal face of the Tasman Glacier and were fortunate to get out of the boat and stand on an iceberg! In this photo you can see the 3 stages of the glacier as it melts.
Jose F, USA
This picture was taken while flying over Lake Mead in a helicopter tour out of Las Vegas. The white stripe on the coast represents where the water level used to be before the drought.
Kailash M, India
This picture was taken in Ujjain, India. It shows a popular Indian festival.
Mary L, Canada
Traghetto Crossing - This form of transportation is perfectly normal if you live in Venice. These passenger boats move across the canal between seven different places. They are also an inexpensive form of transportation in Venice.
Maria P, USA
Colorado River, Pam taking a siesta!
Raul G, USA
Picture taken in a black sand beach on the way to Hana on the island of Maui, Hawaii.
Randy K, USA
This photo was taken in Santa Cruz right next to the lighthouse at about 7am while running 18 miles in preparation for the Austin marathon.
Rob S, USA
Taken off the coast of Zanzibar.
Robert F, Norway
This photo was taken on a hiking trip over to Ameland from the Dutch mainland. You have 3 hours at low tide to reach the shore. If you don't reach it you must be picked up by boat.
Roger S, USA
Hot summer day in Hillsboro, OR.
October 2006 Travel Photo Contest - Theme 'Adventure'

1st - Carolyn H, USA
This is me, Carolyn, hiking to the top of Angles Landing, Zion National Park, Utah. Very scary, the foot path is approx 12 inches wide with a VERY sheer drop on both sides...talking about great hiking.

2nd - Joanne, New Zealand
The preparation for the hot air balloon ride was far more energetic than the flight itself! Sheep, shadows and the patchwork quilt effect of the land was the view for those of us daring enough to look down over the Canterbury Plains. Snow covered the Southern Alps with a picture perfect blue sky backdrop. We even had a perfect landing and champagne breakfast - what more could you ask for?

3rd - Abeer H, USA
Our jeep tracks across a deserted beach in Cox's Bazaar in the south of Bangladesh. The semi-paved road had suddenly ended in the woods, and we still hadn't gotten to the beach so we off-roaded to our destination.

3rd - Henrique T, Portugal
Kaunas, Lithuania. The background is the so called Sea of Kaunas, a small lake that's completely frozen in winter. You must be wondering what's so adventurous about this, but I'll tell you. It was the first time I saw snow in my entire life and to make things even more exciting, I decided to wear only a t-shirt so that I could impress my friends back in Portugal. It was -15 degrees and I almost froze to death! Good thing I survived to tell the story.
Notable Entries - Theme 'Adventure'

Photo of a biker cruising across the playa at Burning Man. This music and arts festival in the Nevada desert is one of the most visionary adventures I've ever had.
Carolyn H, USA
Jason & I at the top of Angels Landing, Zion National Park, Utah. Breathtaking views...don't get too close to the edge. A crazy thunder storm was closing in minutes after this photos was taken.
Gerhard, South Africa
While visiting friends in New Zealand we went away for a weekend to Bay of Islands. The only way to get from Paihia to Russell was with a small ferry. Problem was we already booked a tour on Russell and the storm had arrived. It was a very bumpy ride, but finally we made it. A trip we'll never forget.
Jennifer B, USA
In Hoi An, Vietnam, I wanted to have shoes made personally for me. What a blast. I've never had custom made shoes before. Love it!!!! The shoes are great too!
Steve L, USA
Taken in Tana River, Kenya on a safari to see some amazing animals -- lions, cheetahs, and a million kinds of birds.
Linda F, USA
My husband Leo was standing upside down in the Gulf of Mexico at our favorite resort, The Alden, in St. Petersburg.
Noora T, Finland
This picture was taken in Placa de Toros les Arenes Barcelona last autumn. We were walking back to our hotel from La Sagrada Familia and by chance we ran into Placa de Toros les Arenes. When the truth revealed to us it was too late. It was quite a brutal experiment...
Gary K, USA
The photo is in Victoria, B.C. The subject is in the stocks at the English Inn. He was put there by his daughter who would not be put in the stocks.

Oahu, Hawaii. A perfect day to snorkel in Sharks Cove....fortunately for the snorkeler, there were no sharks in the cove that day.
