The Basilica Cistern (Turkish: Yerebatan Sarayı - and quot;Sunken Palace and quot;, or Yerebatan Sarnıcı - and quot;Sunken Cistern and quot;), is the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul (formerly Constantinople), Turkey.
