This trip is excellent! I was expecting a slighting cheesey tour with unexpected "frights" along the way, but this wasn't the case. The guide we had was a great old chap who speaks more about the history of Vegas and the tradegies and deaths that have taken place. He knows his stuff and makes it very entertaining. The tour ran exactly to time and there were only 8 of us on my trip which made it more personal. Would thoroghly recomend it to anyone who likes "ghost hunting" or popular history. The pick up is a taxi ride away to the hotel where it starts, its off the strip and I wouldn't suggest walking, the ride from the MGM was about 10 mins. The area was fine and theres a "taxi phone" to use when you get back. Theres also a great cheap clothes shop opposite if you get there early!!
The actual flight over the G Canyon is amazing and seeing the Hoover D close up is also excellent. I do however have to mention the organisation of the trip. I had booked and paid for a mid day trip for 3.5 hours which was flight only with no landing or any extras. I had limited time in Vegas and was on my own so didn't want to spend lots of time with people I didn't know. The day I left I called and confirmed my hotel pick up, (which was fine) however, they told me to bring $40 airport tax with me which hadn't been mentioned up to then. The day before the tour they called me to say I had been "upgraded" and would now be landing in the Canyon and was being picked up at 9.30am not 12.30. With no other option I had to agreee. At the airport, two other British couples were in front of me and they had to pay $159 "excess weight" for their group. No mention of airport tax to them. I was in the air with them and once up were told we would be landing at the "Ranch" for lunch, not the C None of us had paid for or wanted this. We were dropped in the desert and collected nearly two hours later having had horse riding trying to be sold to us. With the heat and the food I was sick in the air on the way back and the whole trip lasted nearly 7 hours. The other Brits had only wanted a flight as well, so there was no reason our helicopter had to do more than we had paid and asked for. This did take the shine off the experience.
