You definitely need to spend a day or two in Death Valley, especially if you are visiting Las Vegas. It's easy to include Death Valley on the drive to/from Vegas via Los Angeles. And you won't be disappointed. Be sure to check out the sand dunes near Stovepipe Wells, it's a great place to take photos at sunrise or sunset.

3 things you should do in NYC

New York City

My Recommendation Tip

First, check out the East Village around Tompikns (sp?) Square Park. Good food, bars, shopping, lots to do, not as touristy as other parts of Manhattan. Next visit the Tenement Museum. Lower East Side. Great perspective on history of New York. Then walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Great views. And take a cruise around the island. That's the best views of all.
