Skip the Line: Louvre Museum Walking Tour including Venus de Milo and Mona Lisa
Paris, France
My Rating

We had no idea how extensive this tour was going to be. 3 1/2hrs later and what seemed like miles and mile of walking and standing, we realize we'd only covered a 'few highpoints' of the Louvre. It would take weeks to see it all. There are a number of new exhibits that I would have been interested in but my body needed some R and R. I'd definitely do the 'skip the line.' Our guide Damon was wonderful. He'd come to the Louvre first to study art and his love of art was evident. We'd highly recommended this tour whether you take the whole thing or only use it to skip the line during a 2nd, 3rd or 4th visit. BTW the Louvre was first a place, then a museum for art. The building itself was constructed over an extended period by a number of monarchs with lots of resources. The Louvre itself was worth the visit...just go well rested and wear the most comfortable shoes you own. Avoid taking valuables since it a know pickpocket hangout.

Paris Walking Tour: Discover the Marais District
Paris, France
My Rating

It was a gray day with the Paris skies periodically crying on us. However, our guide Gil Soltz made the trip well worth the visit. We started at the Pompidou Center of Art (which looks like it's still under construction...with all it's 'insides' hanging out). We ended at the site of the Bastille. In between, we wandered the Paris streets, a warren of randomly connected neighborhoods. We lingered at the the Hotel de Ville, the city hall and heard of its many lives. We saw preservation efforts, sites saved, sites lost and replaced with character-less buildings, a church, a Kosher neighborhood, and an eclectic array of shops, restaurants, and architecture. Our guide lives not far from the end of our journey and his love for the area was evident. With our small group of four, it was easy to ask questions and have the tour adapted to our needs. We return to Paris in two week and plan to return to the Marais District to do further looking since we have been well oriented by our guide. Paris is so big, being able to take a 'small bite' like this is very helpful in appreciating why Paris is so well loved.

Viator VIP: Palace of Versailles Small-Group Tour with Private Viewing of the Royal Quarters
Paris, France
My Rating

Why in the world would we spend so much money for such a tour? We concluded that we were only going to Versailles once and we wanted to see as much as possible. Two things were working against us on the day we chose: there was a morning strike in the Palace; and it was periodically raining. It turned out that neither got in the way too much. Once we got into the building, our guide was so excellent that we forgot the delays. The public rooms were so crowded that we appreciated even more the private rooms not open to the public. We had time to see and experience those spaces. We could actually hear our guide and didn't have others stepping into our pictures and pushing us on. After other European palaces including Russian ones, Versailles seemed small. None of the smaller palaces on the grounds were open that day. Due to the weather we 'ran' through the gardens between raindrops (which were disappointing this early in the season) rather than taking a gracious stroll. We did have a wonderful quick lunch at the fine restaurant in the Palace. It was had to find, but worth the look...the pastries were a feast for the eye!

Paris Shuttle Arrival Transfer: Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG)
Paris, France
My Rating

We have taken similar Viator shuttle options throughout the world and have been very pleased. This one would have worked better had we not arrived on the day of the Paris Marathon that had so many streets closed off and traffic redirected. We arrived at the airport and called the contact number and waited nearly an hour. Normally it's very quick, but the vans couldn't get in an out of the city, so they were running behind. Once the van arrived and the drivers knew what to expert re traffic routes, all went smoothly. By being in a van with others staying a different places in the city, we got a mini-refresher city tour as well. We arrived about the time our 'early check in' room was available, so all was well.

4-Day Tour of Central and Southern Taiwan from Taipei Including Kaohsiung and Sun Moon Lake
Taipei, Taiwan
My Rating

We loved our 'trip south.' Three were from L.A.(Mandarin and English); two from Shanghai (Mandarin); and us (English). The guide made the whole trip enjoyable for all and created special experiences...visual and gourmet. The south is so different from the busy north...this was a great way to see it!

Chiufen Village (Jiufen) and Northeast Coast Half-Day Tour from Taipei
Taipei, Taiwan
My Rating

Wanted a glimpse of the northeast coast and got it...so much different that Taipei. In Jiufen, the weather was foggy —felt like ascending through the clouds. Fascinating Could have spent hours peeking into shops, walking the 'Ladder Streets.' I'd go back again to just look at the architecture.

Taipei Half-Day City Tour
Taipei, Taiwan
My Rating

We've found city tours helpful to be oriented to any city where we travel. This time we took a Taiwan friend who learned a lot too. My personal highlight was the National Palace Museum. We went back and spent the whole next day! Think of all the treasures of the Chinese emperors in one place. WOW!

Taipei Arrival Private Transfer: Taoyuan International Airport to Hotel
Taipei, Taiwan
My Rating

After traveling 24 hours, we love seeing a driver holding our name on a sign outside baggage claim. We have used Viator's transfers elsewhere and find them safe and simple. Pre-paying means no immediate need for converting $'s and no haggling. It was much cheaper than a hotel car. Thanks Viator.

Ten Lakes Spectacular to Borrowdale, Buttermere and Beyond
Windermere, United Kingdom
My Rating

What a wonderful way to see the highlights of the Lake District! Our guide was interesting, informative and an excellent driver. Considering some of the narrow 'sheep paths' and hedge rows the driving is best left to this company! We only had two days in this area, but this tour made the best use of one, then we had the second to supplement the tour. A great dollar value!

New Orleans The French Quarter MP3 Audio Walking Tour
New Orleans, Louisiana
My Rating

We downloaded this tour onto our iPhones and each listened with earphones. It worked well as a walking tour. We did it in two pieces and stopped at a lot of spots on the way. The route was good and loved the concept, but the commentary was a bit 'thin.' Good intro to the French Quarter, but I'd supplement with a 'live' specialty walking tour, i.e., restaurant tour.
