Dubai City Half-Day Sightseeing Tour

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

The first hour and fifteen minutes of the "tour" was spent picking up guests from other hotels -this didn't add much to the experience . When we finally started the actual tour, things got a bit more interesting.

The guide was very good and knew his topic. There really isn't all that much to see in Dubai, but what we did see was interesting enough - as were the facts and figures given by the guide.

We went near the Burj Al Arab - but not to where you could get a totally unobstructed photo. This didn't bother me personally but I know others were a bit disappointed, as they wanted to get some shots. As we drove past the entrance, we actually saw tour groups at the gates taking photos. We also went past the "tallest building in the world" but again, not close enough for a photo - although it is very easy to do so from the Dubai Mall.

We went to a local mosque - but it was not open to view.

The Dubai Museum was probably the most interesting facit of the tour as it gave you an insight into Dubai's evolvement.

The short ride across the Creek was ok and the visit to the Spice Souk was fairly basic. A quick walk through and then you were on your own. By the time we got to the Gold Souk it was 7pm and people were a bit "over it". A half an hour in what was just a lot of shops selling expensive jewellery was too long. If people wanted to buy gold items, they would do it specifically - and not on a guided tour.

Getting back to the hotel at 8.30pm made it a long a long afternoon.

Ephesus and St. Mary's House Day Trip from Izmir

A great tour and very interesting. The guide was excellent and doing the tour in a private car made it all that much better.

Stepping back into history as you learn of the Greek, Macedonian and Roman influence in this part of Turkey, was an experience and one not to be missed.

Istanbul in One Day Sightseeing Tour: Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar

Istanbul, Turkey

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

A reasonable iintroduction to Istanbul and some of the major sights. The guide was very good and knew his Turkish history. The only downside was the alleged "cultural" visit to a carpet shop, where we were expected to buy the merchandise. If people wanted to buy carpets they would go to a carpet retailer - not go on a tour.

Christchurch Big Five Attractions

Christchurch, New Zealand

My Review
A great day, full of lots of things to do. The cruise was a great way to see this part of the country and we managed to spot the dolphins as promised. The weather was also very kind to us. The Antarctic Exhibition was also time well spent, with the "blizzard" experience quite worthy of mention. Feeding the penguins and meeting the keepers was a plus for children. The Gondola and tram rides were very good and once again, the weather stayed fine and sunny which all went towards a great day.

Walter Peak High Country Farm Tour and Cruise from Queenstown

Queenstown, New Zealand

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review
The visit the farm was very interesting and perfect for children, as they get to be "up close and personal" with a range of farm animals. The sheep shearing demonstration and sheep dog mustering was very interesting for adults and children alike. The cruise on the lake is very relaxing and gives you a chance to take in the magnificent landscape. There is perhaps too much "down time" with about 45 minutes or more, put aside for tea/coffee and some fairly ordinary cakes. This could be put to better use.

For an insight into some of New Zealand's history, this is a very good tour! The "acting" is quite realistic and the movement from one era to another as you progress through the years is very interesting. Dinner is excellent with a range of dishes on offer.

An excellent small group tour. You see several of the main, well-known sites and gain an understanding of their use and meaning. A lot of walking - but well worth it!

The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg

Salzburg, Austria

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review
A good tour for the family or single traveler to do. Apart from the obvious Sound of Music locations you visit, the tour also gives you the opportunity to see outside Salzburg, with a visit to Mondsee and view of St. Wolfgang. The duration of the tour is also just right and the tour manager knows the subject matter and local area very well.
