Huangpu River Cruise and Bund City Lights Evening Tour of Shanghai

Shanghai, China

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review
While the lights and skyline of Shanghai are lovely from the Bund, this tour experience was quite awful. We hope it was just the Expo crowds, but we were abandoned by our guide in the boat cruise queue for 40 uncomfortable minutes amidst a throng of drunken, shoving and rude non-English speaking tourists. It was impossible to hear the English narration on the cruise, so we have no idea what we were seeing. While the Nanjing Road trolley ride was somewhat better we were also accosted constantly by street vendors. We wish our guide would have a) protected us from the vendors more and b) provided some actual guide info/helped us understand what we were seeing. And most importantly, please do not EVER abandon a group on the street alone -- we paid for a service we did not receive.

Best of Shanghai Day Tour including Jade Buddha Temple and The Bund

Shanghai, China

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
Joe was an outstanding guide for this day-long adventure -- and did a wonderful job of sharing the culture, the history and the perspective on modern Shanghai life as we visited the museum, temple, tea-house and a few shopping stops. Plus lunch was quite tasty and the entertainment a nice bonus. A must-do tour!

Suzhou and Zhouzhuang Water Village Day Trip from Shanghai

Shanghai, China

My Rating
1 star rating: I do not recommend this

My Review
This was a complete waste of a day and funds. It is unfortunate that the guide was silent most of the trip; unless asked questions by passengers she did not share any history, perspective nor information on what we were seeing as the countryside and city scapes rolled by. We had to prompt her to even share that we were passing by rice fields! It's also a very commercial tour -- dominated by the silk factory (where the lunch as inedible) and the Zhouzhaung Water Village -- which is a complete tourist trap. The Master of the Nets garden is not nearly as nice as YuYuan Gardens in Shanghai, and the brief stop on the river canal in Suzhou is really quite awful given the vendors tugging at your sleeves. Please do not take this tour.
