Vienna Old Town Evening Walking Tour with Optional Viennese Dinner

Vienna, Austria

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

A great introduction to the city - I highly recommend this tour on the first day itself so you get your bearings. Despite the rainy and cold evening, the walk was relaxed and we were kept interested and entertained by our guide Marco. He was knowledgeable, told a great story and individually answered queries at the end of the tour about all the usual tourist stuff - which museums to see, where to eat, shop, etc.

Cesky Krumlov Day Trip from Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

A lovely day, totally worth it. Cesky Krumlov itself is a beautiful gem. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and though we had booked an English tour, it was a bilingual tour which she managed skilfully - photo ops while she spoke Spanish to the other travelers, and vice versa. The tour is planned with a late morning walk around the town, plenty of free time to shop and have lunch midway, and then a visit to the castle.

Budapest City Walking Tour

Budapest, Hungary

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

A great walking tour which starts on the Pest side and ends on Buda hill - probably the most comprehensive tour of Budapest which I highly recommend especially if time is short. Our guide Anita was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and most importantly, after a couple of hours of walking, sympathetic and thoughtful to my poor knees - she provided complimentary bus tickets to those of us who didn't want to climb the steep Buda hill! Her commentary and suggestions were great, and she warned us at the start that the tour would run more than the scheduled amount of time - almost 45 minutes extra. If there is a criticism, its only that the tour operator's office is a bit out of the way and not well marked (schedule enough time to get there without getting lost) and the tour ends on the Buda side so figure out the time it'll take you to return to Pest or plan to spend the rest of the day in Buda.

Small-Group Budapest Art and Culture Walking Tour

Budapest, Hungary

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

Maybe it was me... maybe I don't understand the struggle and angst of today's Hungarian youth.... maybe I was too old for this tour..... maybe I should have stuck to the tourist sights especially since my time in Budapest was short.....I don't know. But walking the wet and dirty side-streets looking at "street art" (few and far between) and dropping into out - of - the- way quaint galleries was not what I expected. The walk ended at Szimpla Pub - a funky eclectic mix of kitsch and trash, top-rated on other sites as "the" Budapest hotspot (a bit slow on this midweek afternoon). Full marks to the young guide for her enthusiasm but this tour was a bit off the mark!

Budapest Night Walking Tour and River Cruise

Budapest, Hungary

My Rating

My Review

A lovely stroll through Budapest with Anita, a wonderful guide. The Danube cruise was definitely the highlight of the evening and is a must. Unfortunately the cruise ends late and most places to eat were closed when we got off, so its better to eat dinner before the tour or opt for one of the tours which offers a cruise with dinner.

Gustav Klimt Vienna Combo: Belvedere Palace, Vienna Card and Optional Albertina Museum

Vienna, Austria

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Though slightly more expensive than if you were to buy each activity separately, this combo was totally worth it! The vouchers were waiting for us at check - in - the Vienna card allows free transport for 72 hours and the metro and tram are both easy to use. The voucher allows you flexibility in scheduling so you can plan your time. Variations of Klimt's "The Kiss" are literally all over Vienna on every touristy souvenir, but when you finally view his works in the Belvedere, they blow you away! Keep in mind that the Belvedere is outside the ring (tram is a good option to get there) so plan on about half a day. The combo doesn't include entry into the Lower Belvedere and you will have to pay extra to view the special exhibitions there. The Albertina was wonderful with works by Hieronymus Bosch and Peter Bruegel. Literally the icing on the cake was the Cafe Central voucher. We ducked in there on a rainy afternoon and were enchanted by the architecture, ambiance, and array of desserts, and ended up eating a meal (which of course they adjusted against the voucher). Go early to avoid a long wait.....
