Budapest Folklore Show with Dinner

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 4 star rating: Recommended

Location: Budapest, Hungary

My Review:

This was our last night of a five night stay. I was pleasantly surprised. The bus took us up to the top of the citadel where we had wonderful views of the city and the river. Then we went to the restaurant which was on an island. The restaurant was nice, the food good but not great, we got all the wine we could drink, and enjoyed the show.

Danube Bend Day Trip from Budapest

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 4 star rating: Recommended

Location: Budapest, Hungary

My Review:

This was a good tour but could have been much better. I thought the time spent going to Caprice was wasted. I'm not sure how many tourists want to spend thousands of dollars on diamonds in the short time available.

We would have much preferred to spend more time in Esztergom and Visegrad. We didn't have the chance to do the wine tasting in the tunnel underneath the Cathedral in Eszterom and our trip was to Visegrad was limited to lunch and we didn't actually get to go to the Citadel.

Puszta Great Plains and Kecskemet Day Trip from Budapest

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 4 star rating: Recommended

Location: Budapest, Hungary

My Review:

We enjoyed this but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are spending more than three days in Budapest. It i(the farm/ranch visit) s a nice change of pace from the city but you should have already worked through your "must see" list. We had good weather. I'm not sure how this tour would work if it was raining (you walk around in the dirt a lot). I think the stop at Kecskemet was just a fill in thing. This should probably be a half day tour skipping Kecskemet.

Budapest Night Walking Tour and River Cruise

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

Location: Budapest, Hungary

My Review:

We did a tour everyday we were in Budapest (five days). This was my least favorite. We were already staying at a hotel on the river and saw the downtown sights everynight anyway. We didn't learn much new and the boat ride was too long for us. If you are not staying downtown and have not spent much time in Budapest, this might be a good choice, otherwise, I would pick something else.

Budapest Wine Tasting and Lunch

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 5 star rating: Highly Recommended

Location: Budapest, Hungary

My Review:

We liked this tour. We did it early one and thought this was the best goulash (which seemed mandatory at all the other tours). The wine tasting was in the basement of a bicycle shop but it was fine. The guide did a good job of discussing the wines and the wine history of Hungary. Before the wine tasting, we walked to the central market and rode the train back to the starting point. The guide did a good job of discussing the items we saw on the way. This is a good "first day" tour.

Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este Half-Day Trip from Rome

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 1 star rating: I do not recommend this

Location: Rome, Italy

My Review: One of the most irritating experiences I've had in 45 years of traveling. All we wanted to see was the Villa d'Este. We had already spend two days of touring Roman ruins. We were told that we would go to the Villa and Gardens in Tivoli first and could stay an additional hour, either at the gardens or walking around Tivoli and the bus would come back from Hadrian's Villa and pick us up. When we got to Tivoli, we were informed that the gardens were closed and we had to go to Hadrian's Villa and could not spend any time in Tivoli. We paid approximately 120 Euros for this trip and were only refunded the 12 Euros the guide would have had to pay for our admission to the gardens. When we got back to Rome we went to the tour office and asked to speak to the manager. We were told that the manager was too busy to talk to us but had said that there would be no refunds since the tour company didn't know that the gardens would be closed. This tour is offered more than two hundred days a year. The statement that knowing when the gardens are open and when they are closed was beyond thier control is ridiculous. I will never use Green Line Tours or Viator again.
