Gibraltar Day Trip from Seville

Seville, Spain

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Gibraltar was an interesting place to visit, it is a big rock with very limited land around the edge which is heavily built up. On a good day when the wind is blowing in the right direction you can see Africa. The Main Street was packed with people as there was a cruise ship in town and it is bedlam at the border in the afternoon with all the day trippers coming back across. Don't forget your passport! You will be turned away if you forget it.
The journey from Seville took over 3 hours with no toilet breaks. Our guide had promised a stop and a coffee but that didn't happen. Just before we went over the border everyone on the tour needed the bathroom and had to use McDonalds, the doors were locked and we had to buy a coffee to let everyone in. The guide didn't tell us that just over the border there are toilets, plus toilets in the airport and every place we visited thereafter! It may have saved some panic, particularly as one of our group was unwell.
Once we made it across the border we boarded a mini- bus and travelled on the narrow windy roads around the rock, where we took in fabulous views and saw the monkeys. The local guide was very knowledgable and a good driver - the bends were so tight and roads so narrow! After the tour we had 1.5 hours free time to wander along the Main Street and have lunch. Prices are in pounds, the shops accepted euros but applied their own exchange rate which was not negotiable.
While the drive from Seville is long, it is on a smooth motorway. I suggest the operator considers making a 10 minute stop half way through the journey at one of the many service stops along the motorway.

Tropical Coast and Caves of Nerja Day Trip from Granada

Granada, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

As we hadn't planned staying any further south than Granada this trip was a good opportunity to see a bit more of Spain. There were many olive trees and orchards on the journey down. We stopped at the whitewashed town of Salobrena, walked up to the castle and were treated to an amazing view. We then went to the caves, I have visited many caves and these were some of the best I have seen due to their size, there were a number of huge caverns.
After stopping in the picturesque town on Nerja we then stopped to eat lunch at a restaurant on the beach. Lunch was included in the price and we could order beer, wine, sangria, a main meal and sides. It was a great meal. There were only 5 of us on the tour, 2 of us spoke no Spanish and 3 were elderly people who spoke no English. We all ate together and had a very good time notwithstanding the language barrier. We then visited another beautiful beach where we could walk off some of the lunch. This was a relaxing tour, we were never rushed and the time in each location was just enough.

Madrid Bike Tour

Madrid, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

A fun way to see the sights. If you don't have long in Madrid then this is a great way to see Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor, Plaza De Espana and Parque De Buen Retiro. Physically the ride isn't very strenuous, it is fairly flat and there are many rest stops. Parts of the tour are on the road and towards the end on a main road, so it was a little frightening although the guide had it all under control. We also had to weave amongst pedestrians. There is a drink provided but not until near the end of the ride. It was very hot and we were parched. In summer I recommend you bring a small bottle of water with you.

Montserrat Royal Basilica Half-Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was an easy way to visit Monserrat, I had researched public transport and found it wasn't simple to get there. The views are amazing and the cloisters, church and the black Madonna well worth a visit. We took a 3.00pm tour and it was very chilly at Monserrat, in summer I recommend you bring a light jacket. Our guide Anna was great, she knowledgeably explained the history of Monserrat.

Salvador Dali Museum, Figueres and Cadaques Small Group Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

The museum is fabulous, one of the best I have seen. It is not simply a building with paintings on the wall but an installation with lots of weird and wonderful art. I wish we had a little longer to visit, another half an hour would have been good. We also went to La Pera and to a beautiful sea side town on the Costa Brava for lunch. Depending on the time of the year, this tour can change, so it was a pleasant surprise to visit the Costa Brava.

Skip the Line: Barcelona Sagrada Familia Tour

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

A skip the line tour is really the best way to see the Sagrada Familia. It's Spain's busiest tourist attraction and there are queues all day long. Our tour was 2 hours long and our guide discussed the outside facades, the inside of the church and also took us into the museum. This was very good value for money.

Michelle was an excellent tour guide. The number of people in the Vatican was overwhelming. I highly recommend this skip the line tour, if only to avoid the lines and be navigated through the hoards.

Rome Arrival Shuttle Transfer: Airport to Hotel

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

After 24 hours travelling it was difficult to wait another 30 minutes for the shuttle to leave particularly as we were the only 2 on board. I would have prefered to pay the extra for a taxi as we were exhausted. It was a frightening ride with the driver making a number of phone calls and also sending text meesages while speeding along the freeway.
