Naples Shore Excursion: Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii Day Trip from Naples

Naples, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Picked up on time, comfortable transport and an excellent guide in Andrea. Pompeii was wonderful, especially at this time of year, early November, not overcrowded, bright clear skies and very pleasant temperature for walking around such a historic treasure. Well, done Viator, another excellent trip.

Lisbon Hop-on Hop-off Tour

Lisbon, Portugal

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

The bus came right to the port and therefore as very convenient. There are two routes, red and blue routes, and they interchange in at least a couple of places. The seats are the most comfortable that I've experienced on 'Hop-on--Hop-off' buses, compared to Paris, New York, Barcelona and London. Not as much to see, maybe as those cities, but achieved in comfort! The commentary was not constant(possibly a good thing!), but interspersed with slightly morbid 'Fado' singing--personally I'd have liked more information and no music! Overal, though , a good experience.

Rome Hop-on Hop-off Double Decker Bus Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Normally I think that the Hop-on Hop-off buses are excellent, but unfortunately on two of our journeys over two days in Rome, the sound system did not work, despite moving seats, and trying different earpieces. Also, since my last visit, the stops have been reduced, so there is a great deal more walking required to see sites. Other open-top bus companies seem to have much greater itineraries and options available, so in future I will do some research myself in order to find the best company to book with.

Skip the Line: Ancient Rome and Colosseum Half-Day Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review

Our guide was excellent but the tour did not take account of older customers. Two of our tour had knee problems and as the Colosseum lift had not worked for many days, they were unable to be involved with the part of the tour on the second and third floors above the arena. Equally with the walking around the Forum, the pace set was too fast in temperatures that were very hot for Brits. My feeling is that Rome does not gear itself for the elderley or for disabled people, and that is a great shame. At 67 I shall not be visiting Rome again, and cannot recommend it to anyone over 60!

Boston Hop-on Hop-off Trolley Tour

Boston, Massachusetts

My Rating
3 star rating: Worth doing

My Review
Thr 'trolley bus tour' uses pretty old and uncomfortable buses, with the commentary being done by the driver. The commentary is knowledgeable and interesting but theres a lot of 'Brit-Bashing' in Boston, which gets pretty tiresome. The city is lovely, situated as it is, on a lovely harbour--and I would recommend that you take the free harbour cruise-short, but delightful on a lovely autumn day. Not the best 'hop-on/hop-off' experience I've had--London, Rome and New York were better!

Skip the Line: Vatican Museums Walking Tour including Sistine Chapel, Raphael's Rooms and St Peter's

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
Absolutely fantastic. Our guide was wonderful, witty, and knowledgeable and made the museums, the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica come to life for us. We were immensely lucky in that my daughter and I were the only two in the group instead of 8! So we had a private tour, and the guide gave us 4 and a half hours instead of 3! This was the absolute highlight of our five days in Rome. The 8.00am start meant using the metro, and it was easy to use, in fact an excellent way to get around the city.

Rome by Night Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review
Having arrived in Rome in the pouring rain after dreadful delays, we threw our luggage at the reception staff, dashed outside and were picked up two minutes later by the coach representative and walked to the coach. By the time we had picked everyone up, the rain had stopped and our guided tour began. It was a great way to begin to get one's bearings on this wonderful city, and without doubt, the Trevi Fountain and St Peters Basilica - requiring a bit of a hike to get to - were quite magical and surpassed any photo we had ever seen. So many of the sights are well illuminated and look so different at night, I thoroughly recommend this as an introduction to Rome.
