Provence Day Trip from Aix-en-Provence: On the Trail of Van Gogh

Aix-en-Provence, France

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Lovely trip to Arles, Les Baux and St Remy. Arles has a rich Roman history as well as being a city that inspired Van Gogh (café and gardens) - all pointed out with great knowledge by our guide Florence. We were also lucky that there was a small exhibit of original Van Gogh on display in Arles. The second stop was Les Baux- a beautiful small village in the Alpilles (little alps). Florence took us to lookout point over the city that was breathtaking. We had free time to walk around the village and do some shopping! The last stop was St Remy. Our guide pointed out the mountain just outside St Remy that inspired Van Gogh. Also just outside the town is the sanatorium that Van Gogh stayed and where he painted a great deal of art. You can choose to visit or go direct to St Remy. The town of St Remy is not as interesting as Les Baux; however, there were many local artisans and we bought a painting there. Overall a very pleasant day!

Giverny and Monet

Paris, France

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Pleasant trip to Giverny and Monet's Garden and House. We were unable to take the small group tour but found the coach to be fine for this short trip. The guide on board did an excellent history of Monet and why he went to Giverny. The gardens are beautiful - especially the water lily garden. We found the time to be just right. You don't need more than 1.5 hours - the area is quite small. The gardens are very busy so getting those perfect shots is tough but overall a nice trip.

We enjoyed this quick tour of the Parliament building. The guide gave us an interesting glimpse in to some of the history of Hungary and Budapest. Definitely worth seeing while in Budapest.

Venice Marco Polo Airport Link Departure Transfer

Venice, Italy

My Rating
2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

My Review

Unfortunately the pick up was a half hour late and our hotel was kind enough to call the company and deal with the situation. Fortunately we had no issues departing on Delta but the lines for KLM and Air France were HUGE and a half hour delay could have been critical. Worst was lack of apology. This needs to be addressed.

Skip the Line: Best of Venice Walking Tour including Basilica di San Marco

Venice, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

I wasn't sure I wanted to do another tour by the time we got to Venice but I'm so glad we did! We thoroughly enjoyed it. Our guide Frederica was fantastic. The Basilica is not to be missed. Make sure you sign up for the Doges Palace in addition to the Basilica. Always opt for Skip the Lines - we walked right in and the lines waiting to get in were long!

Tuscany in One Day Sightseeing Tour

Florence, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

Loved this tour! Great pacing - We had a tour of beautiful Siena with a local guide Donatella who was great. Lunch with wine tasting at the organic farm was delicious (note - they work with almost any food issue from vegan to allergies). The Tuscan countryside is breathtaking and even Pisa which I thought of as the 'Ok" add-on was fun. We climbed the tower and took our cheesy pictures and had a ball! Sandra the tour guide was great!!! Don't let the length of the tour dissuade you - the day flew by and was a highlight of our Italy trip!

Skip the Line: Florence Accademia and Uffizi Gallery Tour

Florence, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Word to the wise - try not to book this tour on a TUESDAY! The museums are closed Mondays and the cruise ships come in for their Florence tours on Tuesday so even with "Skip the Line" we had to wait an hour to get into the Accademia. I heard some who bought regular tickets for 12 were not going to get in until 3 so it's still better to use the skip the line tour option. I thought our guide Monica managed the situation well. You can not go to Florence and not see "David" . The Uffizi part was heavy on art history. WE had a different tour person for the Uffizi and she was okay. I enjoyed it but I did hear a few grumbles about the length of time the guide was assessing the paintings.

Pompeii and Amalfi Coast Small Group Day Trip from Rome

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was fabulous! The Amalfi coast is not to be missed. Poisitano is magnificent ( side note -known for it's pizza I was skeptical it could be that good (from Boston and NYC) but the best pizza I ever had!) If you are a shopper you'll like the ceramics, lemon products the area is known for and the handmade sandals! I took the tour for the Amalfi Coast and not Pompeii but enjoyed Pompeii far more than I imagined. We had a local guide Hector who was terrific. I saw people doing the "headset" tours and I guarantee they did not enjoy it as much as we did in our group. If you are lucky you will get Adrianna as your guide for the day. She was fun and knowledgeable and very patient as we had a woman who was always behind schedule! A very long day but well worth it!

Skip the Line: Ancient Rome and Colosseum Half-Day Walking Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

"Skip the Line" is a must for the Colosseum. The regular lines are HUGE. Georgia was our guide and did a very good job. The walking tour of the Palatine hill area was good but if you have been to Greece or Epheseus in Turkey it won't be that impressive. The tour is the Colosseum. It wasn't my favorite thing I did in Italy but I would not wanted to have missed it.

Rome, Italy

My Review

You want to go on this "Skip the Line" tour and be glad you go early! The lines once were left at noon were hours long just to get in. You can not do Rome and not see the Sistine Chapel. Our guide Nicolo was terrific. You will appreciate the small group nature of the tour and the organization was superb. Even starting out early at some point the masses catch up and Nicolo was a pro at negotiating around the massive tour groups.

Montserrat and Cava Trail Small Group Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Montserrat is breathtaking. We had approximately 3 hours which gave you a taste of the area - we had time for a ride up the funicular(cost extra), a 30-40 minute hike and a viewing of the Madonna. Note: Sundays are very busy with local visitors - if you can arrange a different day, it might be less crowded!
We particularly enjoyed the Cava tour. We've been to many vineyard tours but this was the best - beautiful countryside, wonderful explanation of cava production and great tasting!
Our guide was terrific. He explained much about Catalonia while on the road. Once at the site, he gave us brief explanations about each area and then we were left to do the tour or explore on our own. We weren't sure if we wanted to give up one of our few days in Barcelona but were very happy we did!
