Auckland, New Zealand
We were a bit disappointed with this tour given the reports we read prior to booking. On the plus side a lot was sqeezed into the day. On the minus side the tour is actually two half day tours bolted together, the lunch break had to be spent in the cafe of the bus station. On the afternoon part of the trip there were only four of us on a large tour bus, which didnt add to our enjoyment.
The tour to the Blue Mountains was good with a very knowledgeable driver/guide. The afternoon tour of the wildlife sanctuary was one one of the highlights of our holiday, being able to get so close to the animals. One tip - you are offered the option of going back to Sydney on the bus or taking the water ferry - if you are in a hurry take the bus as our ferry stopped at every landing and took ages.
We didnt know quite what to expect from this trip but liked the idea. The breakfast was actually well done, with a good choice buffet taken adjacent to the area where the orangutans are. A family of orangutans are brought out for you to have your photos taken in front of them. The photos can be taken with your camera and there is no pressure to buy from the resident photographer. Souveniers are offered for purchase in the breakfast area and they really are less expensive than in the zoo shop. After finishing in the orangutan area you have time to walk round and see more of this excellent zoo.
The highlight of this tour was the visit to the Raffles Hotel - the rest of the tour was was pretty average. One point if you are going on this tour, when you get to hotel tell your guide that you want time to have a Sinapore Sling at the Long Bar, he should adjust the timing of the tour round the hotel accordingly. On our tour our party did eventually get our Singapore Slings (and they were brilliant) - but as stated earlier, let the guide know at the start of the tour what you want to do in the hotel.
