Skip the Line: Guinness Storehouse Entrance Ticket

Dublin, Ireland

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

After our ferry and then bus arrived late into Dublin, we were too late to do the tour on the booked date. Our hotel rang and explained and we were able to use the voucher a few days later - much appreciated! The tour itself was entertaining and informative but didn't actually show us a working brewery. We enjoyed seeing how Guinness is made, I really liked the section on advertising Guinness and my husband liked the section on transportation.by train, boat, horse, etc. We both enjoyed our pint in the Gravity Bar with beautiful views over the city - I'm not usually a Guinness fan but really enjoyed it in this setting.

Paris Pass

My Review

We had a 2-day Paris Pass and used it to visit the Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Napoleon's Tomb and Museum, and go for a boat trip on the Seine, as well as using the Hop-on Hop-off Red Bus several times and the metro. Really good to skip the lines at the Louvre etc! Pity the Eiffel Tour wasn't included but otherwise excellent - would use it again. Useful little book too.

Skip the line worked well. Our guide Aaron was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of interesting information. Unfortunately it was wet and misty so we didn't get the views we had hoped for, but we still enjoyed the visit.

Murano, Burano and Torcello Half-Day Sightseeing Tour

Venice, Italy

My Rating
4 star rating: Recommended

My Review

Enjoyed this trip. Especially liked the island of Torcello which was very peaceful and relaxing. On Murano, the glassblowing demonstration was interesting and the glass art pieces available were gorgeous if expensive; the cheaper souvenirs cost less in Venice so buy them there rather than on the island. The lace-making demonstration on Burano was very brief, but the island was picturesque.

2-Day Italy Trip: Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri

Rome, Italy

My Rating
5 star rating: Highly Recommended

My Review

This was a great trip and well worth the cost. The local guides in each place were excellent, and the hotel where we stayed overnight (Ambascatori in Sorrento) was wonderful and a highlight of our whole overseas tour. Naples was interesting, especially the huge castle which I had no idea existed, but also seeing what was not really part of the tour, i.e. the shantytowns which show another side of Italy. Pompeii was fascinating and I'm glad we had a good amount of time there. Sorrento was beautiful, but the best section of the tour for us was the fascinating island of Capri. Although we didn't get to see the Blue Grotto because of weather conditions we did go on a boat tour around much of the beautiful island, and also went to the highest town of Anacapri. The tour buses were comfortable, and while there were opportunities to buy stuff (Cameos etc) the salespeople were not pushy.

Rome City Bike Tour

Rome, Italy

My Rating

My Review

Excellent tour. We were lucky enough to have only three of us on the tour so we got lots of chances to ask questions and speak to the guide. He really knew his stuff - lots of interesting information and extra detail. I hadn't ridden a bike for some time and wasn't very confident to start with but I was given a chance to get accustomed to the bike before we started out, and most riding was on small laneways without much traffic. At particular points, e.g. Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, the guide looked after our bikes while we had a closer look. There was a bit of hill-climbing later in the tour but it was all manageable and the bike seats were comfortable! It did start to rain and we were given ponchos, which did keep us dry but were rather too long and I being quite short several times got my feet caught in the poncho as I started off.
