Hoover Dam Top to Bottom by Luxury SUV with Colorado River Float
Las Vegas, Nevada
My Rating

My family and I (two adults and two grandparents) really enjoyed this tour. It was so great to have the smaller group aspect. There were a lot of people at the dam in bigger coach tours, but I think ours was much more relaxing. The ride in the SUV was very comfortable, the dam is fantastic and the raft ride on the river was short but fun!

Attraction
Atlantis Casino & Hotel
Nassau
My Rating

This place is both absurd and kind of amazing at the same time. The over-the-top, kitschy, crowded, Disneyland-esque atmosphere is not my kind of travel, but it is worth going over for an evening to browse the expansive landscaping, the aquarium and the casino. The Casino has several Dale Chihuly glass sculptures that are beautiful. The aquarium is fun -- manta rays, sting rays, tropical fish, turtles, etc. I think you usually have to pay anywhere from $39 to $69 to tour the aquarium during the day. I went in the evening, and there was no one around to check wristbands or anything, so we went right in. It's underground.
The Marina Village shopping area is crowded and full of kids running around, but it's not a bad place to grab a drink or some Ben and Jerry's and listen to the guy playing the steel drums. It's also the place to gawk at the enormous yachts in the Atlantis marina.

Pirates of Nassau
Nassau
My Rating

The Pirates of Nassau Museum is fun. It's a short activity that you can do one morning before it gets too hot and you go to the beach. It's very interesting -- the history of Pirates in the Bahamas is well-depicted and there are lots of little trivia questions to answer along the way. At $12, it was worth it.

Straw Market
Nassau
My Rating

This place is a zoo. If you want to trip over people, deal with crowds and sweat a LOT, then spend time here. You can find some nice straw bags and hats, but there's a lot of tacky designer knockoff bags, as well. You can find straw bags and hats elsewhere, like at the foot of the Queen's Staircase or at the fisherman's wharf.

Nassau Snorkel Bahamas Adventure
Nassau, Bahamas
My Rating

This snorkel tour is really worth doing. I've snorkeled in many places in North America, the Caribbean, Central America and Australia, and this was one of my very favorite snorkeling experiences. The water is impossibly clear and the tropical fish are fabulous. Colorful, cute, varied in size and patterns...they're truly beautiful. The tour operator is efficient -- the check-in process and all that is organized and easy. The facility is nice, as well. A good shop and places to relax and have a snack or an ice cream before or after. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Travel Recommendation
San Juan Islands from Seattle
Seattle
My Recommendation Tip
The San Juan Islands archipelago is a group of islands north of Seattle. To get there, drive to Anacortes, about 75 miles north of Seattle (1.5-hour drive). Then take the ferry to Friday Harbor on San Juan Islands. There are more islands, including Orcas Island, that are popular. San Juan Island is the busiest, I think, and has the cute little town of Friday Harbor. In Friday Harbor, walk around, eat a delicious seafood lunch and take a whale-watching cruise. Seeing killer whales (orcas) out in the water is amazing.
It's a great day trip, or you stay on the islands for a little getaway.

Kings Park & Botanic Garden
Perth
My Rating

Kings Park is a gorgeous part of Perth. It sits right on the Swan River and looks over downtown. It's great for picnics, reading a book, hanging out, whatever... And there's a nice tree-top walk kind of thing with cool bridges.

Cottesloe Beach
Perth
My Rating

Cottesloe is one of Perth's most popular beaches - it always seems to be crowded, but for good reason. It's really pretty, the sand is soft and the water is gorgeous. There's a lot of grass, which is great for having picnics if you don't want to get sandy.
