Death Valley Day Trip from Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada
My Rating

300 words cannot describe how awesome this adventure was! It is honestly one of the best tours I have taken. I toured DV on April 7 which had extremely high winds and was cloudy and cold! Not your normal day - sandstorms, dust devils, it was awesome! Ralph, our guide, handled the trip masterfully given the conditions. A bit on Ralph - there are "tour guides" and there are true *Guides* - Ralph is the latter. Ralph was the real deal when it came to local knowledge - he has the gift to be able to speak for 13 hours basically nonstop but it is not a script - ask him a question and he will give you a real answer. Ralph encouraged us to do the "natural" tour and not the Scotty's Castle part - so we got to go see Dante's View - as other tourists here have stated - you really, really need to do that - it is amazing! Of course it was like 20 degrees and had 70 knot winds up there that day. Great idea to stop at the haunted "Amargosa Hotel and Opera House" - unexpected and very welcome. We got sandblasted a few times trying to see the dunes, but Ralph was able to get us to all of the major spots - the salt flat is truly a site to behold, but be forewarned it is a LONG walk to get there - also - you will get the opportunity to climb a lot of peaks or not, if you do remember - Zabriskie point is a tall climb and the salt flat is a long walk so be prepared. Ralph made the trip back to Vegas enjoyable too - he really can cover a vast amount if info - never bored in 12 hours. Excellent!
