Excellent trip. Our driver/guide picked us up at our hotel at 9am, stopping along the way for a regional take on arepas (included). Then to the replica of the old El Penon town (before it was flooded) and a view of the lake. Next, up to La Piedra del Peñol and the rough, but rewarding, climb up. This was followed by our tour of the beautiful village of Guatape and an hour's boat ride before the drive back. Guide was excellent as well--personable and informative. Certainly a highlight of our Colombia trip.
Turns out this tour shares a bus with about five other tours. Those of us leaving from Zurich were headed to Lucerne (where two stayed for the day), Rigi (where about four departed), with the rest going to Mt. Titlis and Mt. Pilatus (only three of us went to Engleberg). This is fine except for some confusion on who was going where, causing some delays, and finding new people on the bus in Lucerne, who sat wherever they wanted, causing those of us who'd already been on the bus to have to move. This is also why one has three hours in Engleberg--to allow time for those to go to Mt. Titlis as the cable car takes 40 minutes each way. It's a lovely area, very picturesque, but three hours is a bit much on one's own.
Excellent tour guide and well-paced. Rapperswil was a beautiful stop, but only an hour including lunch. Heidiland is picturesque though entry into Heidi's home is extra--plenty to see without going in, however. Vaduz (Liechtenstein) is unremarkable at first glance, though some interesting sights can be found with a careful eye. Bus stops right next to tourist center where you can purchase a passport stamp for 2 Euros or 3 Swiss Francs.
