My Review

This was actually a two part tour. Part one was a walking tour led by Louisella, who took us through Piazza San Marco, past the line and into the Basilica, and then through various areas of the city, including the childhood home of Marco Polo. She was very friendly and informative, particularly when it came to the history and culture of Venice. The second part, which happened in the late afternoon, was a motorboat tour of the various canals, led by Francesco and our boat driver. This was also a lot of fun, particularly the passages into the smaller canals and the history of the various buildings.

I recommend this tour for anyone wanting a pretty thorough picture of Venice from the ground level.

Tuscany in One Day Sightseeing Tour

Florence, Italy

My Review

This was a full day bus trip that encompassed Sienna, San Gimignano and Pisa, with a lunch stop at a Chianti vineyard. Our guide was Becky, who was both very informative and very entertaining. She even provided a demonstration in Pisa on "How to take the Cheesiest Picture in the World" so you can look like you're holding up the Leaning Tower.

The visit to San Gimignano was the key to the day. More than the view from the high tower in the town is the Gelateria di Piazza - which makes the finest gelato I have ever had. Becky of course gets to enjoy this every week, while I had to return to the US and will never get any more of this gelato!

Cinque Terre Small Group Day Trip from Florence

Florence, Italy

My Review

This was a full day trip from Florence down to the Mediterranean. We were picked up by Matteo, who drove our van for over 2 hours to get us to Riomaggiore, the first of the five towns. We then walked along the coast to Manarola, took a train to Vernazza, had lunch there, and then did a drive back to Corniglia, including a vista point stop. The only town we were unable to visit was Monterosso, but we had a full day with the places we did see. The views are amazing, as is the sea air. Be aware that lunch is not included, but there are great seaside restaurants in Vernazza we were able to enjoy. There's also a great dessert place that Matteo took us to (il Pirata), with some amazing cannoli ideas...

My Review

This was a tour in two parts. The morning was a walking tour of the Vatican led by Francesca, who took us past the line into the Vatican and then through the Vatican Museum. She had plenty of good information about the history and the artwork. We went through the Sistine Chapel, where no cameras or talking are allowed, and then into St. Peter's. All fairly awe inspiring.

The afternoon bus tour was led by Tiffany, who brought us to three major churches in the area - St. Paul Outside the Walls, St. John Lateran and Sta. Maria Maggiore, with a stop by the Holy Stairs. Tiffany was very helpful and knowledgable about the history of the various churches and the artworks inside.

This was a very pleasant day.
