the tour was for 9:30am and and already the queues were quite extensive. We readily found our tour hosts and were quickly divided into two groups. we left before 9:30 and skipped the queue which is the best thing. Veronica was our guide and she was excellent. there are some 77,000 exhibits on display so we were shown the most importnat and impressive works with a detailed explanation. Veronica was able to manouvre us through the throngs of people in some areas and allowed time in Sistine Chapel to admire and reflect on the work. we finished on time and inside St Peter's Basilica where we spent more time once Veronica said goodbye. Thoroughly worthwhile, professional, fun and informative.
another excellent experience in having a guide take you through some of the key sites. Our tour guide (sorry i did not write her name down) was very passionate about Rome and its history and also knowledgeable about the archealogy - she had a double phd in the discipline. there were a number of kids on our tour and she engaged with them all, particularly the very young ones because trooping around Rome in the heat may not have been their idea of fun. the tour goes through some of the ancient and more recent palces of interest but it all fits together. the coloseum was the highlight for us and we spent another hour there after the tour. the guide was open to questions and had all the answers. the skip the line aspect of the tour was of real benefit at the coloseum as there was a significant queue.
