Walking Tour of Old Montreal

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 5 star rating: Highly Recommended

Location: Montreal, Canada

My Review:

Ours was the English speaking tour. We had a large group of 26 which was not optimum. But our guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and entertaining. I would highly recommend taking this tour if you a a first-time visitor to Montreal.

Montreal Historic Discoverers Cruise

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 5 star rating: Highly Recommended

Location: Montreal, Canada

My Review:

Our guide was at a disadvantage as he had to conduct the tour in English and French which makes for a somewhat disjointed presentation. But he was very good, knowledgeable and entertaining. I thought he did an excellent job. My only problem was with the ignorant passengers in our group who continued to talk during his presentation and the drink waiter who conducted converstations with the passengers OUT LOUD while the guide was describing views and historical events. If I were the captain I would have made them walk the plank. Despite our ignorant cruisers the tour was worth it.

Montreal City Guided Sightseeing Tour

Tour / Activity

My Rating: 3 star rating: Worth doing

Location: Montreal, Canada

My Review:

I was very disappointed with this tour as this tour was our keystone event during our time in Montreal. The guide conducted the tour in French and English and I understand that is difficult as you have to drive the bus and describe the surroundings and historical points in a very short window of time. But our guide's English left much to be desired. It's hard for me to criticize since I only speak one languge, but our guide's English was so swayed by his native French that it was difficult to understand him. You REALLY had to concentrate on what he was saying. There were moments when his English was very good and during those times I'd say he was very good....knowledgeable and humerous. It's just a shame that those moments were fleeting. It made for a long 3 hours. So sad and too bad. By the way, Viator is just the middle man, a Tour Operator runs the tours. I've been on a lot of tours and they have been well-run and their guides are knowledgeable, but this guide's expertise was compromised by his French accent.
