This excursion was very good value. The tour guide, Ulyses, was knowledgeable and gave excellent background and history of the Mayan people. the site guide at Chichen Itza was also extremely good. It is a long trip and requires breaks from time to time. On the way we stopped at a craft market and then lunch. The buffet lunch was good but the attempted entertainment was quite poor and more directed to obtaining tips.We had to run the gauntlet to get out of the restaurant! In the event we got less than 2 hours at the site and missed so much. Less time at "stops" would have helped as this was to be the main reason for visiting Mexico. Still it is a place not to miss and we thoroughly enjoyed our memorable visit. From the booking via Viator, in the UK, to the hotel pickups etc. everything was well organised.
Excellent trip. Tulum was beautiful and well worth visiting. Unfortunately my daughter became unwell in the heat and had to return to the air-conditioned coach. The guide was excellent and after his talk to the party, escorted my daughter all the way back to the coach and ensured she was OK, while my wife and I could finish the tour of the site. Xel-Ha was a fantastic place, but you really need a day there to experience everything. A word of caution! We decided to float down the river on inflatable rings. The river does not have a current and and you really need to have flippers as well. I didn't and fought for over 2 hours to paddle myself along before abandoning the ring halfway and swimming for the nearest exit, and then searching for my family! I missed other attractions in the park as a result and was also very tired. A warning about the potential length of the river and time required would have been useful. Still it was all an experience and enjoyable and a beautiful place. Incidentally my daughter recovered rapidly and managed to complete the river! Trip very well organised.
