Rachel was an excellent guide - knowledgable, captivating and amusing. The sites were fascinating and the trip ran very smoothly.
It's disappointing to note that Hadrian's villa is considered less important than the Ville d'Este - OK it's ruins but the site is huge and more could and should be made of it by the Italian Govt. Disappointing to learn from our guide that access may be withdrawn because of lack of numbers and the sluggish public officials there seem to mirror the general attitude of indifference. Villa d'Este is a pretty enough garden but rather more might have been made of the visit to the building . The operator (?the Italian government) should really furnish some of the rooms - it is a bit like visiting an open home with a real estate agent. Our guide was good but not great and really shouldn't smoke when conducting the tour.
An excellent walking tour of Rome with a great guide and theme. We enjoyed it very much but the start and finish points are a long way apart and that wasn't made clear in the promotional material. It isn't that easy at that time of night to find a bus or taxi from the Castel moat so the long trudge back to the hotel took some of the pleasure away from the walk.
Not specific to this tour but common to all three, of which this was the first: why the nonsense about printed tickets? The guides and assistants had printed lists of names for each tour to check who was there and another tour operator we used didn't required us to print out the voucher. You have no idea how difficult that is when you have booked online while travelling (few hotels have easy access to printing so I had to get them printed sent from a freind in England) and not everyone has or wants a smartphone! Furthermore, not once was the actual voucher collected from me which was really annoying. If you are going to have online booking and email confirmation for goodness sakes drop the "you MUST print this voucher" nonsense and use your lists and some other means of identification like a booking reference number.
