My Review: What an amazing experience. We beat the queues by visiting the ESB at 8.45am on New Year's Day. We had no queuing at all and had uninterrupted views of NYC, being able to stand and stare for as long as we wanted. The day was bright, fine and clear and was the perfect way to say 'Good Morning' to 2012.

Washington DC Day Trip from New York

My Review: Excellent value for money. Early departure; leaving Grand Central Station at 6.45am and not returning until 9.00pm. We had a comfortable coach with two drivers and a tour guide throughout. The coach was full but we had enough room. It's worth noting that we had electrical sockets next to our seats - if we'd known this we'd have charged ipads etc en route. Our guide was knowledgeable andensured we all kept to the strict schedule; even leaving behind 2 guests at Madame Tussauds in Washington. The memorials were great, as was the White House and Capitol. We would have preferred free time in Washington rather than trips to Madame Tussauds amd the Space Museum. A fabulous day out thougha nd an easy way to see a place we wouldn't visit in its own right.

Manhattan Island Cruise

My Review: An excellent trip, despite the cold. The boat had enough seats for everyone to sit inside, although many of us braved the elements to photograph the amazing skyline. This is by far the best way to see the whole Manhattan skyline. It was also a good way to see places we wouldn't visit like the Bronx. It felt like we'd seen the real New York after this trip. Our guide was superb; very knowledgeable and full of interesting facts. If you're a keen photographer, this trip is a must. The final leg from the top of the island, under the Washington Bridge and back to the pier felt a little long, but the boat had a well stocked cafe area and it was nice to sit with a cup of hot chocolate, watching NYC float past.

My Review: The perfect way to see the skyline glittering. I know the Staten Island Ferry is free and runs 24 hours a day, but there was no queuing for this trip! We spent some time at South Street Seaport first and had a fabulous view of the lights of Brooklyn. Once afloat, we had fabulous views of Jersey City too. The statue was amazing up close, but this trip is worth the fee for the sheer spectacle of the Manhattan skyline by night. Another thoroughly recommended trip.

My Review: A little disappointed with this. Yes, you get to see the sights of NYC but it was bitterly cold sitting outside and the covering perspex was very scratched and so photography was impossible. It was the Christmas holidays when we visited but the buses were all crowded and we regularly stood while 3 or 4 buses went past the stop. The bus company had obviously sold far more tickets than they had seats and it was impossible to get on a bus whenever you wanted to. having used hop on/off buses all over the world; I have never before had this problem. Top of the rock was great, although we didn't use any of the other features of our ticket. There were 3 of us in our party and the cost of these tickets would have paid the cab fares we ultimately ended up paying! If you're happy to walk around NYC, using cabs for the longer journeys, then you'd be wiser to spend your money in this way.

My Review: An excellent service. We called to confirm pick-up and altered the time to one that would suit us better. This was accepted immediately and the customer service was excellent. Our hotel was in central Times Square, amidst horrendous traffic, but the car managed to be on time with a polite and courteous driver. The journey to JFK was speedy and efficient. One word of warning - the limit of 1 suitcase and 1 piece of hand luggage per person is a good one. We struggled to actually fit 3 suitcases and 3 pieces of hand luggage in our Mercedes. For your information, a yellow cab to JFK is a fixed fare of $45.
