While staying in Mestre, which is in the Venice area of Italy, we ate at Nepi Venessian, one of the restaurants that was recommeneded by our Aaron Hotel. The restaurant is owned and operated by four brothers. The food was excellent and desserts the best I've ever tasted. I would recommend trying lemon sorbetto while in Venice. It is a refreshing lemony tasting alcoholic drink.

Good independent trip with plenty of time to see Pompeii, though not as represented. Our "hostess" did not hand out any information other than a sheet of paper with 10 locations (but no directions or map) to see at Pompeii. There were no videos, no books, and no other information on Pompeii on the bus. Problems we had included trying to find the location of the pickup point and the bus accommodations. Note that the Italian tour buses do not have on board toilets and have extremely little leg room.
